can carriers block phones on Android

Ah.. in those circumstances it's registered as a stolen phone and is de-activated (based on IMEI number) by the carrier so that the phone is unusable to the person now trying to use the phone.


No way around that I'm afraid and in theory if you get the phone as part as a contract deal you don't legally own the phone until the end of the contract; it's essentially a hire purchase arrangement. This is to try and reduce theft (of all sorts) and I must say I was glad that no-one got the benefit when I had a phone stolen from my bag last year (very professional hustle job by a gang as I was getting on a bus in London).
