Root re-write the misc image to downgrade

there is a guy on xda that claims an older versionof unrevoked got him su access on 2.3.4: [Q] HTC Incredible running 2.3.4 and 2.15.10.07.07 - Please help get S-OFF - xda-developers

he says hes installed clockwork,and even made a backup,but cant run unrevoked forever patch because the baseband is not supported.

any ideas? basebands were able to be changed in recovery on the eris,but havnet seen it done this way on the inc.

other idea i had was to rewrite the misc image so he could just downgrade to froyo. if hes tryuly got su access that should be no big deal.

i thot i had seen a guide or thread about rewriting the misc image so a stock phone could downgrade,but i cant find it for nothin now

if youve got a link or idea,ppost it up here or there

im finding it interesting,aS id heard 2.3.4+ was unrootable with any typical means(like rageinthecage)

Hey Scotty, I would go off this one:

The files needed are in post #13. We tried this earlier but couldn't get temporary SU so gave up. If this guy actually was able to get temp SU with S-on, this should work although obviously I'd downgrade to 2.2 in this case instead of 2.1 like the original thread.

i will keep you updated for sure. i keep checking that thread to see if hes replied yet. then i can either make up a guide, or link him to it dep on how comfortable he is.

if i dont hear anything,some experimention is in order think ill go ahead and put an unrooted(still s-offed) GB on my inc,and see if i can duplicate his situation. if the commands work without errors,i may even turn my secure flag back on and try it

either way ill keep everyone advised

You'll have to if it works with s-off. First thing everyone will ask when you post..."but did u start out s-off"? Been down that road already, everyone has a conspiracy theory that it can allow magic inexplainable things to happen lol.

ive downloaded the files,and looked thru the code. if he still hasnt replied by the time i get a chance to play with it(sometime over the weekend) heres my basic plan:
1) turn my secure flag on on rooted froyo. enter the commands to rewrite the misc image,and try to downgrade to 2.1.
2)reroot aND turn the secure flag back off. run the GB ruu. instal clockwork,flash superuser. run thru the rewrite commands.
3)turn the secureflag back on in gb this should be the condition hes in-rooted,cw recovery,s-on.
4)run the commands again. cross fingers and hope it works to downgrade back to froyo.reroot and turn secure flag back off.
5)run gb ruu again. now try and figure out exactly how he got su access without installing a recovery thru hboot. if i can figure that out,then-
6)turn secure flag back on.run gb ruu again,and cross fingers that whatever we find in 5 works,so i can root and repeat step 4 to get back to froyo and run unrevoked again

alternatively,im going to watch craiglist for a couple days,if i can pick up a spare s-on GB inc cheap enuff ill get it to mess with(mine technically belongs to the GF now and shes not crazy about me messing with it )

hopefully we will get it figured out.

if not,i do believe there is light at the end of the tunnel... alpharev tweeted the other day that he needed latest OTA files for inc 2 AND inc 1 hopefully there is enuff demand they are working on adding support for it

Sounds good. I know you've been around for a long time so I'm assuming your Inc is Amoled. That would be prudent when downgrading from 2.2 to 2.1 in the early stages of your plan. If it's an SLCD screen, you'll end up with a black screen (phone still working though) and you'll have to blind flash your way out of it.

i will keep you updated. picking up a spare,s-oned inc tonight so i dont have to risk my s-off.

as long as the file he sends is able to give su access on it,im hopeful it will all work.

If you can actually get SU, you are in, no question about it. Screw the exploit, downgrade ftw. I'm just hoping his deal wasn't an odd fluke...can't understand what would have allowed the SU on that version that's what's troubling me.

Agreed, it doesn't really make much sense, since unrevoked uses the rageagainstthecage exploit which has no bearing in gingerbread.

well guys,its not lookin so good. the file that he sent was unrevoked 3.22,so it is a couple versions older than the current. i picked up a spare inc for cheap,turns out to be an slcd,idk if thats got anything to do with it. s-on and froyo still

so i jumped in with both feet and just ran the 4.06.605.3 ruu and ran the program. its not working,but the phone doesnt remember settings on reboot,and keeps forgetting to have usb debugging checked,so when it reboots ive got to manually check it for it to continue. it then just hangs on "letting system settle".

i think part of the prollem might be this ruu is bad. obviously those that got the real OTA have working phones. with this RUU,it hangs at the droid eye for some time during the boot,and when it finally comes up force closes stuff all over the place.

the syncing icon has been there all night and my contacts still arent there,if i try a manual sync,google servcices framework FCs,the market wont update because the updater FCs,you literally cannot do anything without something FCing. i cant even download a file manager because android.process.media keeps FCing the phone is literally unuseable... im glad this is a spare one,or id be pretty ticked off since theres no way to even go back.

im not sure if i should publicaly post a link for this version. if you all think its ok,then i will... otherwise PM me for a multiupload link if you want to give it a shot. but as has been said,i wouldnt get your hopes up too much,as the rageagainstthecage exploit has supposedly been patched. i have no idea how it worked for him.

i can still walk him thru trying to rewrite the misc image,but without a way to get root acess first,its not going to do the rest of us much good.

Do we know if this will work for amoled and slcd screens yet? etc... Might be a dumb question but you never know. Either way I have been looking/checking for a new way twice a day since I flashed the update so YAY!

Go into the about phone section, and look under hardware: version 3 is slcd and version 2 is amoled.
