im wondering why they are bothering with 1.6 at all if 2.1 is around the corner.
while its different countries, its the same devs making the firmware afaik

EDIT: just seen other thread, hopes scuppered. 2.1 is not confirmed at all and with 1.6 confirmed i would imagine its not going to come :(

So the Spica is officially getting 2.1 (good move) then why is the Galaxy getting only 1.6? why bother to upgrade to an already old version?
I think it's pure marketing, MWC is near and I'm sure Samsung will present new Android phones and they have to do it with 2.1 (everything else doesn't give you attention from the media) and they have to differentiate them from their previous models. But at the same time they can't be the only company who has one of their phones (their former flagship device) stuck in the oldest Android version around, so they come up with this strange solution.

I have a bittersweet sensation now, from this announcement I think it's quite clear that we won't get an official 2.0-2.1 update, but as the Android kernel is the same from 1.6 onwards they may have paved the way for an unofficial but complete 2.1

I dont want to do any comment on the situation (they will update? they wont update? they will upgrade 7500 with 1.6 and 7500 with 2.1 bot only if mars is going to crash un venus?)...

But this is an essential point: is 2.0/2.1 kernel the very same as 1.6? If yes the situation is not so bad :)
In this case i would prefer a 1.6 update in a few weeks than a 2.1 in a few months

Well, it would be nice to officially get 1.6 version if we can not have 2.0/2.1
(still hope that Samsung will surprise us positively)

After that we can wait for Drakaz and Mustymod do miracle for us. Since 1.6 is same kernel as 2.1, after Samsung release drivers open source, that shouldn't be problem for such programmers...
