Well I'm sure that this phone and ICS will be an upgrade for everybody, but I thought I'd see a huge difference from other lagging android devices, and to be honest, there is a difference, but it's still not where it's suppose to be. Ans they said with the Hardware accelerated UI this would all be fixed. .from the videos I've watched it doesn't seem to be.

Hard to say from Videos. Every review has says it's the most snappy Android phone they've ever used. I'll test drive it myself and see what I think.

Not sure what videos you are watching because I don't see any lag at all in ICS.

FYI, just make sure they have the same settings. Using network position to get a GPS fix takes much, much less time. If that was checked off, then that could explain it.

I peeked into a few SGSII forums, and didn't see the GPS being discussed, so right there with the critical nature of us, I'd expect it to be lambasted if they didn't fix that fiasco from the SGS.

yeah was all the same setting for both phones. The other reason I passed on sgs2 I really like how ics looks. I don't see ics hitting sgs2 till march at earliest

NFC won't work like that. It's either designed for it, or not. For the retrofit to work, it would have to have extra pins on the battery to provide a data path to the phone. Do you think the RAZR has that extra connectivity?

are you sure about that? i remember when they were announcing google wallet that they would be selling nfc stickers for phones without the capabilities

Screen is still beautifull and no slouch, BL a drag but 4.0 will take the sting out of that and blur isnt bad anymore. Would i prefer blurless? For sure. But the phone OTB will be pretty amazing and with root already achieved it will be bloatless. Still love the Nexus but the RAZR is a pretty sweet piece of hardware. Gorilla Glass, Kevlar and a stainless steel chassis is music to my ears. Plus "waterproof" . Pretty sweet. As i said before i love the industrial look of it. Nice lines and looks rough n tuff :) like the Original Humvee......in my opinion of course.

Fair enough. But I don't think 4.0 will do anything to their stance on locked BL. It would be interesting how they handle Blur on ICS.

And "waterproof"? I saw them saying splash proof but waterproof is a bit stretch, especially with built-in battery. I hope anyone with Razr would not try to swim with it.

Reading some of the comments on the Cloud thing.

I keep my own cloud with a low frills Go Daddy hosting domain pretty cheap that comes with 100GB of server space. I do it for 2 years at a time for a good discount and it has been getting cheaper because of the early renew discount offer I got this last time.

I can stream from there if I like.

You know some idiot will say to themselves 'the presentation says it's ok with some water, I'm only gonna jump in for a second'

I like this idea. Will be looking into it when I get home.

Sounds like a plan, gapi, but The_Chief hasn't done web hosting in a LONG TIME. I would need n00b-style step-by-step on what to order and how to set it up ;)

I've been following this since post 1. I am very excited for this phone and can not wait to get rid of the Thunderbolt. Verizon was my carrier for a long until I left for At&t to get the iPhone 3. About 6 months before my contract was up I left because I was sick of Apple and the At&t dropped calls. It also was the same time the Incredible came out. So since I came back to Verizon I've only had the Incredible and Thunderbolt. Between the two I've had 8 or 9 replacements thanks to a policy of giving you what they call "100% Certified Replacements". I call they them used when I call and they don't like that for some reason. Anyways, they are crap. Not to mention HTC's poor update record and terrible build quality. However I do like Sense. I'm not due for an upgrade so at some point I'll be selling my Thunderbolt. This phone is going to be awesome!

http://www.pogoplug.com/products-pogoplug.html

You don't need a usb port on your router or an ethernet connection on your external drive. You just need Pogoplug. I have this one which connects to my router then I connect my external drive to the pogoplug device. There is another version which connects the pogoplug device to your PC but I didn't like that one. Sorry for the confusion. I am terrible at explaining things.

Not to sound too snarky, but did you read what a pogoplug is? It is a small computer that runs off of a marvel (I think) ARM chip. It is basically a media server. It has both an ethernet and USB port, so it plugs into your router and from that connection serves the media on whatever is connected to the USB port.

Ok, just want to clarify here. there are basically 2 ways to use Pogoplug

1) Software only. This is free. Leave your PC on, and you can copy folders from your PC to phone and vice versa. Pay a small fee and you can also stream directly from your PC.

2)Buy a Pogoplug device. I have one, it connects via Ethernet to my router. I have a 1 TB hard drive attached. I can access that drive from my phone to download or upload, and stream music and video. I also set up "Active Copy" on my PC to automatically backup my PC to the 1 TB drive. Very handy.

In any case, I highly recommend. I use it for my phone and my Tab and it's way cheaper than buying cloud storage, and remove the issue of who is storing your info. The only downside is if you're traveling and have a poser outage or something at home, you're screwed, so I keep my music on Amazon as well, so I always have access- but that's free (I only use 20 GB), so I'm not paying for it.

Oh- and since the USB hosting works in Honeycomb, I know some people with Xooms who have mnicroUSB to USB adapters that were able to attach thumb drives or (powered) hard drives, so you might wanna check over there.

Yeah ive flashed literally hundreds of ROMS, kernals and BA's. Im looking for a great otb experience so the locked BL while a drag isnt a deal breaker anymore. Back in the old days of single cores, low RAM and 2.0 - Froyo there was a NEED to squeeze every ounce of performance out of the hardware and software. With 4.0 and Dual Cores finally on the scene the need is not there anymore. Its more of a luxury. I'll leave that to the new guys to enjoy. Been there done that. Flash, set up phone for hours, rinse and repeat. Adb pushed pulled pressed and thrown.

Im looking for a great OTB experience nowadays.

Waterproof was in quotes for a reason :)

Gents pardon the stupid question but what prompted all the cloud/storage conversation? Was something leaked in regards to storage space or is it just idle chit chat?

idle chit chat mostly. basically that if you arent grandfathered in to unlimited data, using cloud services to store and stream a bunch of content(specifially videos) over your LTE will eat up those 2gb tiered plans in a heartbeat

I have a question for all those who say that they have flashed ROMs and have now settled down:

I understand that the thrill wears off after a while and you no longer flash daily, but what about the customization ROMs offer? Not optimization for performance, but customization to personal preferences?

At least one person has said that the locked bootloader is not a problem because they don't flash too often anymore. Maybe it is just me, but I want CM on my phones. I want vanilla with all of the CM enhancements--app permission veto, notification toggles (not just CM anymore, but it originated there), and the theme engine. That is not to mention the innovations CM will have in the future (things like notification toggles). It was he ll for devs to get CM on the locked bootloader and it took forever.

I am firmly in the camp where I will root this thing ASAP. As soon as a stable CM is built for it (which will be soon after release, given it is a Nexus) I will flash it. And even if that is the only flash I do, I will be thankful that the bootloader was unlocked such that I could do that so quickly after having gotten the phone.

So...basically I know locked bootloaders can be worked around, but why settle? At least for me, it is still a dealbreaker.

A locked bootloader doesn't make it impossible to run CM on your phone, just trickier. As for me, yes I really enjoy the customization of different ROMs and that would be very hard to give up.

I posted this in the mist of the VZW announcement so it got overlooked by everybody, understandably. . so I'll post it again now that things have come down a bit.

I've seen many videos of the device by now, and I just gotta ask.

Does it bother ANYBODY that the device just isn't up to par with movements of the finger touch.
By that I mean, the movements simply DON'T keep up with the finger. .A finger can make it across the screen and the slide of the phone is left behind. .when I see people bringing down the notifications bar, you can clearly see that it falls behind, and on some videos where they demonstrate the phone, they have now started to swipe down nice and SLOW so that the slide can keep up with the touch of the finger.

I thought this was all suppose to be fixed with the GPU being used for drawing, instead of the CPU creating a movement by putting dots together.

It's the one thing that iphone got right from the get go and I think Windows phones started using it as well. . .but what's up with this ? It still doesn't seem to be up to par

I noticed what looked like poor swipe response in that very first leaked video before the official announcement. I kept wondering if the guy doing the swiping was simply a poor swiper or if the software/hardware was not optimized properly. I haven't noticed this problem in the post-announcement videos I've seen. I actually thought (in that first video) that the operator's freakishly long thumbs might have been part of the problem. LOL
