Hey guys Im new to this forum, so whats up fellow Android lovers?!?!?

Just wondering how many, if any of you are currently in a contract with another carrier, and will be paying an ETF to go to Verizon for the Galaxy Nexus?

Im with T-Mobile and am just about tired of their crap, and will be happily paying that ETF and getting the Nexus on day one!

Any one else?

I may switch from AT&T as I have no contract and buy the Nexus off contract on Verizon, but I won't do anything until the end of December so the dust settles and I know if I can just buy the HSPA+ one unlocked.

Or I may just give up and buy the International GS2 because Verizon's $30 2GB data pisses me off.

I am surprised you will be doing this and are willing to lose your unlimited data. When I did it, I got in on Verizon's unlimited data before they stopped it. If you don't care too much about that, then go for it! But I would see if they will waive or lower your etf. When I left tmobile I spent a long time on the phone, talking to multiple representatives, supervisors, and even a manager until I got 2 of 3 of my ETF's taken off. I think the hours I spent harassing them was worth it! I just see it as risky for you since the merger is getting closer and you're about to be able to keep that unlimited data on the death star. Good luck!

Bad move. Never switch carriers for a phone. Just ask all those iPhone people that left Verizon to go to AT&T. Evently most phones come to all carriers in some way or another.

I agree, but this is Tmobile, and im really have no intent on staying with them thru any merger. I just feel like Tmo had their day, and wont be getting any of the top tier phones in the future.

tmo throttles me at 5gb of their pathetic "4" g, so no biggie for me. Thanks for the advice on the ETF, Im def gonna try that!

yeah I`m leaving ATT for Verzion for the GN, I`m tired of ATT edge service, I live in coldwater,mi and there is I-69 and US-12 major highways and no 3g service, verzion has 3g in my area, I know that ATT 3g is faster than Verzion 3g, but I can`t take dealing with ATT edge service anymore yeah I will have to pay 265.00 etf but I don`t care I want better service

That's funny. I also had my number from Voicestream, to tmobile, then when I heard of the merger, I split to Verizon! I ported the number over and couldn't be happier with my service. I didn't want to be a part of att because I was with them before, and it was horrible! After doing research, I understand nothing has changed. It's sad since they were sold, and then had to start up again. You figure they would have learned some lessons. Most importantly, you figure consumers would have learned their lesson!

If I were the CEO of Verizon Wireless, I will grandfather all the unlimited data customers from AT&T and Sprint. That will drastically increase their customers while hurting their competitors. It is similar to retail stores matching the discount offer from their competitors. I don't know why no wireless carrier is doing that.
Well if Verizon were to grandfather AT&T customers, then AT&T could just as easily grandfather Verizon customers.

I'm sure that there are some behind-the-scenes agreements going on between the carriers.

I've been a loyal T-Mobile customer for years. I own and currently still am using the first Google / Android smartphone, the HTC G1 "Dream". However, Verizon service is better in many areas of San Francisco, where I live, and in the Sierra foothills, where I travel at times. Also, Verizon is making great progress with the rollout of its LTE network whilst TMO's "4G" is still really HSPA+. Additionally, all of the drama surrounding TMO's proposed "merger" with AT&T leaves many customers, including me, feeling very uncertain about the future of that carrier. All of which make my decision much easier to purchase a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Verizon as my new carrier despite the prospect of higher data usage rates.

Yeah I'm most likely switching from Sprint. Their service is pretty good down in Miami, but now that I spend 8 out of the 12 months of the year in Tallahassee, their horrible service up here just doesn't do it. Paying the ETF right now would amount to less than paying my monthly bill. That plus having the entire google experience and getting a big upgrade from my EVO 4G definitely does it for me.

The best move I ever made was moving to vzw from att... Best service I have ever had bar none.

Same here. After switching from ATT to Verizon, I went from having 7 of 10 calls dropped to zero out of 10 calls dropped in my house. I switched on the last day of unlimited. I'm not sure I would have made the move without unlimited data seeing how much data I used in just 3 days of listening to streaming music at work on Google music and Pandora. May have waited for ATT to roll out LTE or switched to Sprint rather than deal with 2G caps.

This. Though I can't comment on the current state of things. I switched almost 5 years ago. I was on ATT and had to walk into my driveway to make a call. I was with ATT for 5 years and every year, they would tell me "we are putting a tower in your area soon". Finally left, and couldn't be happier!

That said, it would be a tough choice if I where going from unlimited data to 2GB/month. I would probably still do it, because I don't use as much data as some here, but still something to consider.

Anytime before the change from Unlimited to Limited plans I'd say switch in a heart beat. The LTE speeds and Verizon being the most reliable, fastest, and largest cell phone company made my switch from T-Mobile way more than worth it a year or so back.

But now, I wouldn't switch if you're on an unlimited plan somewhere else because you'll be on a limited plan now.

Buttt, if you are already on a limited plan, I would make the switch to Verizon for sure.

Just MO and personal experience.

I'm on AT&T right now and have unlimited 3G on my iPhone 3GS, so if I waited who knows how long for the Nexus to come to AT&T I would lose my unlimited when upgrading my plan to "4G". So there is no point in my staying because no matter what phone I get for AT&T I will lose my unlimited.

So with this deal they are doing with 4GB for $30 I will definitely be going to Verizon for the Nexus, and so I can get real 4G data. AT&T has also burned me way too many times. (I'm sure in 2 years I'll be saying the same thing about Verizon though)

If Sprint was getting the Nexus I'd much rather go there for unlimited data, but it is looking like they wont have unlimited for much longer, and I don't want to make that gamble. Plus I don't see the point of getting a WiMax device when they are right around the corner from rolling out LTE. All signs point me to going to Verizon, who already has an established LTE network.
