2.3 Gingerbread date confirmed Finally!!

Got the following reply when I complained about the time its taking to release Gingerbread for the black:

"We apologise for the delays for the release of Android 2.3. We have been spending an bit more time than usual troubleshooting and assessing the stability of the software on our handsets to ensure that it is working as trouble-free as possible once released. This and negotiating with the networks for them to release the software for their customers does unfortunately take some time."

Their latest date is December 12th - will believe it when I see it.

Contacted LG again this is what they said:-

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update was released by ourselves on the 12th of December. However, some networks including T-mobile and Orange have yet to release it to their customers. Because of this we would suggest contacting your network provider to see when they will release the update to their customers.

We hope this information has been useful to you, if you have any further queries please feel free to contact ourselves again via e-mail or on 0844 8475454.

When I try to update it still says I have the latest version.

Anybody got it yet for the black?

Must not have been and honest answer.

Using LGMobile Update, try browsing the EUROPE/OPEN (in Options, set country to "EUROPE" and in the menu to the left select the "Supported Models" dialog). There's NO V2xx there for ANY P970. P920 and P990 have their V2xx.

They were pretty clear that "open models in Europe" would get the update 1st.

I believe that LG has exhausted its research budget for the year and OB will not get the GB update. ICS will be available for the Optimus series in 2012 Q1.

Let's just *hope* that OB won't be in the end of the line when the tickets get sold out (*again*).

I'm seriously considering NOT buying another LG phone.

To my surprise he did ring back, but all he could tell me was the release had been held as it didnt fix the battey issue. His words "release is imminent".

I am new to LG but am unlikely to get anything else from this company - in my opinion they havent go a clue about customer service and seem prepared to lie regarding release dates and reasons for delays. They even tried to tell me to contact my network provider to find out when the release would be!

Don't hold your breath. I went through this with my HTC a couple years back. Don't believe any rumored release dates. It will probably come at some point maybe, but it could be another year. They just don't have any vested interest in providing these updates when most users (in Europe, at least) just replace their phones for free every 2 years or so.

Yes you can. I made an upgrade to Brazil/Open ROM using Fiddler to emulate the expected responses for my IMEI if it were Brazil/Open. Thus now I have V20A Brazil which is the latest stock ROM for my country (but not for my phone, which comes from TIM).
