Help Help! Back of G1 Being Scratched?

I've dealt with the G1's numerous problems, (ie.. massive creaking), but now I have another supreme issue.

The back of my G1 screen has a deep scratch that is in a PERFECT curve, thus leading to the fact it has to be caused somehow by the sliding mechanism... and it's really bothering me now. Whenever I slide my phone, I seem to get a slight 'crunching' sound, as if it's being cut further.
What is causing this?

Should I go ahead and call T-Mobile and see if this constitutes a replacement? I purchased my phone exactly 49 days prior to this post... so it should all be under warranty? This is quite sad, since I absolutely love my phone and I just got the Cupcake update. :(

Bleh, the T-Mobile rep was nice and everything, but thinks that it was physical damage that is not covered under the warranty. However, he also said for me to head to an actual T-Mobile location to see if it's my fault or not the thing is damaged like it is.

How in the world could I make a perfect curved scratch like that?

I have the very same scratch after sitting on the beach. I think sand/grit caused it.
that's my complaint about flip phones and my hesitation with a slider, moving parts mean that little things can get in and gum up the works.

If the OP is hearing something grinding, it may be that something slipped in and is stuck in such a way that it's causing the scratch. It's possible that the T-Mobile reps can take the screen off and remove the piece that's causing the issue.

I guess this is one other reason why an onscreen keyboard is helpful.
