Google Wallet and LTE Galaxy Nexus Buyers **PLEASE READ**

Attention all Verizon Galaxy Nexus buyers. Verizon will probably be blocking Google Wallet. This is an illegal action. When you order or buy the phone, right away ask for the complaints number with corporate. Sure you can look it up online, but Verizon needs to be sent a message that we know they are doing this. The retail stores and Corporate must be made aware. Blocking of Google Wallet is in violation of the Net-neutrality Acts, which prevent providers from blocking content and applications that are legal. Google Wallet is not an illegal app and if Verizon is having issue with their partners for other mobile payment options, that is their own fault. Doing this is not helping the American people, limits competition, and is not how Capitalism works. If Verizon had faith in their own ability to compete, in this area, they would have no problem putting their mobile payment system against Google.

I don't know if I would trust a third party app or ROM to handle my credit card information to. I guess Google Wallet won't see the light fully until carriers man up and give us more freedom.

I just received an email from Tommy Hilfiger. They have partnered exclusively with VISA and will no longer allow me to carry my Costco AMEX card in my wallet. Doing so violates a condition of their terms of ownership.

But seriously, OP Lazydog, you're right -- Verizon (and, presumably the other carriers) are testing the waters and they're going to get bitten. I didn't expect Net Neutrality, but I did figure some sort of commerce clause would be used as a stick to beat them back.

And FWIW, this isn't a strike against the Nexus, it's a strike against any NFC-enabled phone on Verizon or any other carrier who tries to enforce this. The disappointing thing is I expect it's going to take a long time to play out and correct itself, unless the public outcry is so great that the media makes it an issue and it becomes a PR mea culpa.

Please provide evidence that Verizon is blocking anything, or stop making outlandish claims.

It's a new phone, on a new OS. It's not coming finished out of the box. It doesn't have Flash either. So unless you have any kind of real evidence that this is a deliberate move by Verizon, these claims are just speculation and hyperbole.

I'm actually in the middle of filing a complaint with the FCC and I will also be filing a complaint with the FTC. I will also be emailing the list of Verizon executives to let them know of the complaints. I think those here that have a dog in this fight (affected consumers) should do the same.

Personally for me its not a deal breaker and i could care less if its on there.

I'm not saying your not entitled to do what your doing at all. However i do think there probably aren't too too many people getting that upset about it.

By the way I think you may be wrong. The proverbial sh*t has hit the fan. Every news site is picking this up. It's all over WSJ, Reuters, CNBC, etc. I'm sure we will get a statement from VZW at some point.

Number 1, I was actually looking forward to getting started in NFC and was looking forward to trying out Google Wallet. Number 2, it doesn't matter, Verizon does this, and then what else is next? Once one thing goes unchecked then they will look for what else they can block, and so forth.

Even though I will root and install Google Wallet, I won't sit back while VZW unlawfully blocks a legal app for competitive reasons. It's the same way with voting, you don't vote, you don't complain.

Actually, that's exactly how capitalism works. Two parties (in this case VZW and Google) have apparently contractually agreed on the extent of services offered/not offered (again, in this case, Google Wallet).

the WSJ article you quoted actually says (apparently after the subscriber jump) that while it won't be on the phone out of the box, verizon won't block you from downloading it through the market...

i don't have subscriber access so i can't see it, but it was quoted in the monster thread.
