Help me out here. I have 6 mos left on my grandfathered unlimited data contract. I've had a Bionic, purchased outright for $350, for about 3 weeks now. I picked it up because my OG Droid was crying out for mercy and thought it would be nice to see how a larger, touchscreen only phone would suit me in the real world. I don't mind a larger phone at all after having used the Bionic this long and I can live with touch screen only. I haven't had the serious data problems that some Bionic owners have had, so that isn't a big reason for me to switch. I'm enjoying the crap out of 4G. I'm also enjoying the crap out of the great uptime I get with the extended battery - all day usage, 4G turned on, no problems, no midday charging necessary. And the phone is
fast, especially coming from the OG.
I want the Nexus. But mainly because of the ability to stay current on the OS. I'm not a big custom ROM kind of guy, so I had been living with Froyo for a long time only to see GB never coming to the Droid except on custom ROMs. I like to see refinements every now and then...
So, more rational minded Nexus pre-release thread readers (near oxymoron, I know), what would you do? Keep the Bionic and live as a free agent after June to keep my network options open and wait to see where the next Nexus lands? (AT&T service is generally fine for me, HSPA+ is also fine for speed needs...) Or would you upgrade now just to experience the newness of a supposedly more oft updated Nexus sooner rather than later? Is say supposedly because, Verizon
does have a hand in firmware approvals and, well, we all know how predictable that is...especially when I'm not a big custom ROM guy, remember...
Thoughts? Talk me out of/into a Nexus. Make your case. You know you have nothing better to do.
Of course, it is ultimately up to me, but I just wonder what others would do in my situation. Don't put the cost of the decision into your reasoning - that aspect for this decision doesn't matter much to me at this point.
