***Official G-Nex first impressions thread*** Love it? Hate it?

OK, so I said earlier that the important things to me are battery life, phone reception, data reception and the display. I went to Verizon today to play with the RAZR, Rezound and Gnex. THe GNex's display was not so much better than the other two that I couldn't get past it. I did notice that the RAZR and Rezound (both within a few ft. of the Gnex) got a better signal, and I am hearing in here that the phone does not sound great and is not that loud. Battery life has yet to be determined. So, after weeks and weeks of great excitement, it is looking like 3 of the 4 things that are most important to me (and seem to be very basic items) are not very good on the Gnex. How in the world does Verizon/Google/Samsung release what should be a flagship 4G phone with such a poor radio? How does a phone of such caliber have such a poor speaker? I wanted sooooooooooooooo badly to walk in, try all three phones and be like "F' yeah, Gnex kicks butt!! All that anticipation and excitement was warranted!!" To me any smartphone should start with doing the basics well, then accentuate that with some additional awesomeness like ICS and panoramic camera and face recognition and all that stuff. Reception and speaker quality should be baseline items. I really don't want to pee on anyone's parade, but does anyone feel remotely similar?

I owned a rezound for 2 weeks and i can honestly say that if the rezound had ice cream sandwich it would beat the g nex in every way.

If it was stock android it might have a shot to me with android 4.0. But still I think it is a little thick for me and heavy. I like how light and thin this phone is. I would love to see a Motorola stock android phone out with an unlocked bootloader. As long as it didn't look like the razr that is. hehehe.

I think the Razr, Rezound, and Nexus are all great and the other two will be even better when they get the update.

What is there for visual voicemail options on the Nexus? I do not see a standard version on the phone.

Google Voice, cant remember if it is on the phone by default, if not download it from the marketplace.

I just noticed that there is visual voice mail nexus in the market. Of course it's 2.99 but I was already paying for that on my x2 so it doesn't bother me. I have never tried google voice, but I would like to know if it is just as good.

Get Google Voice. It's free, gives you a second free number that you can use with your phone, and you can set up your regular voicemail to go to it also.

The only complain I have is the transcript feature is pretty inaccurate, but otherwise no complaints.

I'm not rooted, works like a champ.

I did get the paid version, so, I don't know what the free version offers. I saw it mentioned in "the mega thread" last week or so and looked into it then. Thought it would be worth the price. Give the free version a shot, it can't hurt, then, you can always upgrade later.

Hey thanks! Just wanted to make sure before I spent the money (about rooting I mean). I know it usually says in the description if your need to be rooted, but this just seemed like it would be one of those, despite no warning.

Thanks again and have a great weekend!

I use a program called "Read It Voicemail". It doesn't give you the same things as Google Voice, but it does do a pretty good job of translating your voice messages into text form, and then is sent to your e-mail. I have debt collectors who call at times, so I honestly don't want to be notified every single time I get a voicemail. So what I did was set up RIV, and then put a re-route in my email so that they'd all go to a specific folder. Now I don't get an email notification or a VM notification when someone leaves one. That's exactly what I wanted. But if you didn't want that, you could obviously just allow it to go into your gmail and get notified via email.

Just something to consider if you want something extremely simple, completely free and hassle-free as well!

Oh really. So let me get this straight. You don't owned the phone and the folks on this forum who actually have this phone are happy for the most part and you don't want to pee on their parade,WOW!.

Well, my reception issues have changed throughout the day.

I started with bad reception (-100 dBm and up) this morning while only being able to get around 3-4 mbps down in speed tests. I was out and about for most of the day so I was doing tests in random areas. While my dBm was still nto the greatest I was making crystal clear calls and getting 10 Mbps+. I started to wonder if it was just my house. Then when I returned home I started testing again. -84 dBm in the house and 12 - 15 Mbps down. Wifi has also improved so that I am getting 12 Mbps down on that as well where I was only getting 6-8 Mbps on previous phones over Wifi.

Burn in period? Down tower? Too many people playing with their Nexus at once? Who knows.

I totally forgot to do my research on the hdmi output.
Cant believe it doesnt have one, that sucks.
Do they sell hdmi adapters for mobile phones?

The Nexus is capable of HDMI out through the MicroUSB port. I don't know the technical specifics, but I'm sure someone will fill you in.

The Nexus actually uses an MHL connection. I am told it is far better than a standard HDMI connection.

First one I found:
