I've got a root problem. My previous phone was rooted and worked fine. warranty replacement phone is 2.3+ and I haven't been able to get a ROM to work right. I've got fresh and mikfroyo. I tried the netarchy kernel. But i still have random auto shutdowns. What next?

Last time around I haven't used titanium backup and I'm still having problems.

what kind of problems? I see the random shutdowns but what other issues are you having? Shutdowns could be caused by an app and not necessarily your ROM. Also if you used the latest SU this could be the problem it has a bug in it. Try downloading the older one from the Rooting For Dummies Gingerbread page.

This kinda makes me glad i didnt wait to root and get to flashin'. Id suggest a superwipe (viper makes it, i think) and then reinstalling the rom... that usually fixes the random shutdows issue. I had this happen on fresh a couple times a while back, and the zzzsuperwipe/reinstall fixed it. Id even suggest getting a new download of the rom. Its worth a shot.

Howdy, I haven't read your whole issue but in order for those you mentioned to work I suggest you use the amon ra or amon ra style recovery.

I believe the backups yo have made with clockwork will actually work with the amon ra style recovery.

I will dig you up the link, I suggest you read the Changing recoveries section of the gingerbread, rooting for dummies stickie in here.

xda-developers - View Single Post - Amon Ra Style Recovery for Supersonic

Ok, here is the amon ra style recovery. you can flash it by using the directions found here, from Ocn's sticky I referenced above. the original name is different but rename it just like these directions and carry on. You will like it! You can use the vol up and down and power buttons as before or you can use the capacitive buttons on the bottom. Home is up, menu is down, back is back and search is like power button. enjoy, hope it helps your problem too.

"speaking of recovery i would really recommend that everyone switch to amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery then clockwork mod. you can get the recovery here:pC36IMG RA 2.3.zip
here are the instructions:
1.download the file.
2.rename the file by erasing the "_RA_2.3" part of the name so that it is only named PC36IMG. make sure not to add ".zip" to the name as windows hides extensions.
3.transfer the file to the root (that means not in any folder) of the sd card.
4.power off (you most likely need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.) then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and select yes to update.
6.select no to reboot because we want to go into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
7.select recovery.
8.select backup and restore and select backup
9. select the first three and wimax. the other partitions do not need to be backed up. always keep one nandroid backup with wimax keys backed up on your computer.
10.now you can reboot.
11.using a file manager of some sort or even through your computer via usb, you should rename or delete the PC36IMG file on your card. otherwise you will be asked to update every time you go to the hboot screen. you do not need that file any more."

Installation aborts when flashing the amron through clockwork mod. Is there a way to install it without CW?

The PC36IMG is supposed to be flashed by the bootloader (hboot).

Make sure the file is on the root of your sd card and named exactly "PC36IMG" as windows hides the .zip extension. Once hboot recognizes the file it will ask you to update, select yes, reboot and you will have the new recovery. :)

I got amron working. I wiped all. I used super wipe. I used Caulkulin. I reflashed the most recent version of Fresh.

It just restarted on its own again. What next?

Have you tried to redownload the Rom?
You might have been getting bad downloads.
Also, have you been downloading straight to the phone?
Sometimes this causes issues.

If none of these work, try and flash the stock rooted Rom for the most recent update. If you get reboots with that one, you'll probably need to unroot and take it in to Sprint. :(

I just tried to get back to a stock ROM and that would not install.

Now I'm trying to unroot and it isn't updating the pcimg.

I also don't have a power option in my settings to turn fastboot on/off. FML

do you want to unroot or just go back to stock?

if you want to unroot, you need to change the name of the file to PC36IMG. make sure that you do not add an extra zip as windows hides extensions. also it needs to be on the root of the sd card that means not in any folder. i would use the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html and go to the unrooting section.

and fastboot if not in power would then be in settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.

It fell out of my pocket in the driveway and fortunately the damage was covered in the service plan.

Do I dare try rooting again?

so that is up to you. is this the same phone then or did you get a new or refurb phone?

to me the advantages far out weigh the dis advantages on being rooted. but ultimately you will have to make that choice. rooting is not for everyone. but rooting really gives you freedom over you phone. not to mention better performance and battery life.
