Root App for android equivalent to ifile?

Is there an app out there equivalent to ifile? is using something like es file explorer the same thing? Or would something like ifile let you get into the files for various apps installed on your phone rather than just on your sd card? Am I making any sense? lol.. ><

yes the best file manager app would be root explorer, but it is not free. but it is a great app. also es file manager is not bad as well and that one is free.

Do they allow you to view and/or edit system files for various apps?

You can view all the files on the phone, but some you cant edit while using the phone for (fairly) obvious reasons (in use).

If you want to view files on the phone you can simply download your ROm and make changes to it on the computer then flash the rom
