Help Data drops, got to know whats happening...

So my Droid Razr is driving me crazy with data drops. It will just "magically" loose its data connection whether its 4G or 3G and have to be either rebooted or put into airplane mode for a minute in order to "reset" the data radios; even after restoring the phone and installing the new software patch.

I have been reading a lot over the last week about your Nexus...I am thinking of switching out the Razr for it, but I need to know...the radio issues you all are reporting are they weak 4G/3G signals, or are you people loosing your connection all together and not able use the network and/or send receive text/mms messages while your phone is in data "limbo"; similar to what I have with my Razr.

Thanks for the input.

Usually the swap from 4G to 3G is instant for me. When I start to leave the last 4G tower, while driving on the freeway, it will take about 30 seconds to get 3G back. That's the worst it has ever been.

If the RAZR drops are like the CHARGE (and they are from word around the office), then imho the SGN is better.

Flip into 3G mode at the office and signal is the same as several other 4G devices (that report 3G signal). I think a lot of it is the 4G signal is weaker, and it gives the impression that it's weaker compared to a 3G signal.

Now there's a few people here that would disagree with me. I would suggest calling VZW and discussing the RAZR issues that you are having (did you get the small update this last week for the RAZR?), and they will probably do some troubleshooting and want to send you a certified like new RAZR.

I would discuss your reasons to swap out to a different phone or just return the RAZR...... then buy the SGN. I would hate for you to get it, then hate it, and not be able to exchange again. If they can guarantee that you will be able to exchange 1 more time, and note it on your account... you can't lose (except maybe the restock fee).

I'd hate to see the retail person's face if you walked in.... yes I'd like to return my RAZR, it's in the window. Then they process all that for you, and then you say... yeah, I'd like to buy a SGN :D:D

Yeah I've been working with VZW and with Motorola -- got the small update and it did nothing.

I really like the Razr, but the data drops are killing it for me. I just don't want to go through the hassle of exchange it out for the Nexus and have the same issues.

Yeah, tough call. I love the RAZR but held out for the release of the SGN. I play these little technology games in my head all the time. If I swapped the SGN for the RAZR, I'd lose ICS, have a worse camera, and a few more things. Girls with small hands have the RAZR at work and they WANT THE FOLDERS functionality, lol.

The other thought is that when the RAZR gets ICS, will it have 7 buttons then? Or will they find some way to skin the ICS interface on the RAZR to not use the interface on-screen buttons?

For me ICS isn't the selling factor of the Nexus. I just want a phone that works. I don't like paying for data services I can't use. Last month I only used 400mb of data because I was forced to be on WiFi 24/7.

This is my exact problem also. While on a call with VZsupport, I turned off my good 4G connection. Took my SGN about 30secs to get 3G back. Then switched to CDMA/LTE and that took another 30secs to connect to 3G and 5+ minutes to get back the 4G connection.
Supposedly VZ is working with Samsung to fix this slow reconnect issues. :(

I had the Bionic, which faces the same data drop issues that your Razr does.

If the phone had to flip from 4g to 3g, data was completely gone for 5-15 mins. Airplane mode did not fix my issue. I had to turn the phone off and back on.

Even after the data patch update, it kept happening.

I am now a Nexus owner and am very happy.

The switch from wifi to 4g to 3g were all very smooth and quick.

My bars show the exact same reception as the Droid X and Bionic, but the db reading is about 10 dbs lower, but my signal strength is just as good as my wife's Droid X.

I still get the same 30 Mbs on my speed test on the Nexus that I got on my Bionic.

But now, I never have to worry that I'll be in a situation where I need my phone and my services are frozen.

Get the Nexus. You'll be happy.
