Ive just got around to backing up my photos on my samsung galaxy nexus and found some right crap I remember having the same issue with the HTC desire but i put that down to me being careless. What Im on about is the random video and picture files that are already there on your phone, like I said Ive just backed all mine up and found the crap (couldnt see it on my phone as file!) I found adverts for topgear kellogs cornflakes investing in asia just to name a few does anyone know where these files come from or why they put them there and why they dont show up untill you connect to a PC?

Just checked and all in all it everything (including my stuff not much about 1gb) took up 2.5gb of precious space

The OP said advertisments for cornflakes and topgear, that is neither carrier nor manufacturer.
That is most likely from web browsing cache or an app.
As to why you can't see them on the phone, they are probably in a hidden folder, a folder with a . in front.
I had tv.com installed, it would keep a picture of every TV show you searched.
Blockbuster did the same thing for every movie.
