Root Red triangle recovery issues and more

Hello,

I'm having lots of problems getting my phone back to normal. It was rooted, and I was trying to unroot it because I was having issues with Sprint and making calls, so I just decided to go back to stock ROM. I thought that would be relatively easy. I messed up somewhere and now am totally f'd. I have read a lot of posts of people with similar problems, but I just need some help, I've tried a lot on my own for the last 48 hours, to no avail. Thank you in advance for taking time to help me.

Phone: HTC Evo 4g (obvsly)
Supersonic EVT3 Ship S-ON
Hboot-6.17.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.0808

When I bring in any PC36IMG.zip file onto my phone, the HBoot looks at it but never asks me to update it. I have a microSD card reader and can put files on it that way, but I can not get my phone to boot so I can't use USB debugging to use RUU or anything that requires my phone to be on.

So, if I try and go to recovery, I just red triangle. If I try and boot regular, it just loops on white splash screen.

If someone could tell me what I am doing wrong, I'd be very happy, thank you thank you.

which PC36IMG file are you using? where are you d/l'ing it from?

Good question. I have tried ~10 different PC36IMG files, small ones, big ones, some supposedly just to help me get recovery, none will update.

Specifically, the one I just tried: PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip

and, actually, this one did something different, after Hboot checked it, it says: Main Version is older! Update Fail! Do you want to reboot the device?

So, I'm sorry I don't have a link specifically to the download site, but I just closed like ~5 of the sites I had open. Basically, I've been grabbing them from various Rooting for dummies, androidforums threads, etc.

and, I'm not adding an extra .zip or anything to the files, and its verbatim PC36IMG.zip, caps and what have you.

Thanks for the response!

Hmmm.....should still work even if its stuck in bootloop or on the splash screen.

Ok, I just ran the RUU app about 5 times. I goes through the initial steps, then it is verifying the contents on my Android device, then gives me the USB error.

My computer makes the USB connection noise when I plug it in or unplug it, so I know the port is good and it is recognizing something is plugged in, but running the ROM Update Utility, it does not find it.

ahhhhh xtremes on the case :D youre in very good hands now my friend. Hey xtreme, what are your thoughts on adb'ing in this case? If he is in the red triangle state, do you think he can force on some firmware? And what in Gods name are you trying to unroot for anyways? LoL

I dont think adb will work unless he can get to recovery or normal boot. I will have tto get to my PC and see what I have for links.

@BobDull. You said it will try to update with the PC36IMG file correct? Do you have tthe one for hboot 2.16?

thanks for dropping in extreme :) I hope that your upgrade isnt due for quite some time. Your presence will be sorely missed if you get something else and leave us :(

Thanks Bud. Not due til August but the wife will have her's til January of 2013 I think. I will still be doing things with it though even after I upgrade. Its too good to let gather dust. Probably flash them over to MetroPCS for my twins at that point to keep them going. Theming and family keeps me from being here more but I will help out when I can.

Thanks for providing the link to that PC36IMG file. I loaded it up and it reads the file, then says "Checking PC36IMG...". Then nothing else. If I scroll down and click Hboot, it just does the same thing.

So, to answer your question, my phone has tried to update with a few PC36IMG files, but not all of them, I can't nail down any pattern as to why it will update or not.

So, it did not work. Additionally I tried getting adb to push files onto it before I had the micro-sd card adapter, and you are right, I can not get adb to recognize the device either. It just says device not online or can't find device.

To recap: The sd card has been wiped, I have the sdcard's entire contents prior to me wiping it, but if I put that back on there, I don't get any different results, still red triangle at recovery and looping white splash screen. S-ON. And now, almost all PC36IMG files are checked, but I do not receive the option to update. I think I need to figure out how to resolve that issue.

Thanks for stickin with me.

Thank you. Solved.

I guess my follow up question is, what made you choose that version/where did you find it?

NICE!!!!
it was the latest version when i made this guide. but i just updated the unrooting guide and the dummies guide. there actually was never a public release for the PC36IMG ruu. but thanx to captain throwback who posted in the unrooting guide with the file.
