[International / GSM] where can i get the stock recovery file?

im looking for the stock recovery file to load back on to my nexus. i want to be able to receive the OTA updates. been looking for it and not sure which one it is...any help?

I think so it should have the word bootloader somewhere in the name.

thats what i thought but i tried to flash that in adb and i still have clockwork on my phone. any ideas? heres exactly what i typed into cmd

fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-toro-primekk15.img

hit enter. then...

fastboot reboot bootloader

then when i scrolled up to recovery mode it went to clockwork. so that tells me it didnt work

You need to be in fastboot to flash it. In ADB use the command ADB reboot bootloader then your commands should work.

If you were in fastboot make sure you have the img file in the same folder as your fastboot file

ive got it saved under platform-tools which is where i see adb and fastboot and su and all that stuff. so i think i have it in the right spot. so i plugged my phone into the computer. went to the above file and pressed shift and right click then brought up cmd. then typed adb reboot bootloader. let it reset then typed fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-toro-primekk15.img

it said writing bootloader and told me how long that took. then i did adb reboot bootloader again. let it reset and scrolled up to recovery and clockwork is still there...what am i doing wrong?

I don't know why it isn't sticking your steps seem correct. You aren't on a custom rom are you?

Sounds like the OP was asking for the stock recovery image, which is contained in the image-<model>-<version>.zip file that is contained inside the <model>-<version>-factory-<hex code>.tgz stock image file.

The image-<model>-<version>.zip file contains the boot.img, system.img, userdata.img, android-info.txt, and the stock recovery.img file. You have to extract the recovery.img file and flash it via fastboot just like you did CWM. Here's the command for reflashing the recovery.img file:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

If your phone is a GSM/HSPA+ variant, then your stock recovery image for the current 4.0.2 version will be named: yakju-icl53f-factory-89fccaac.tgz and the .zip file inside it that contains the stock recovery image (recovery.img) will be named image-yakju-icl53f.zip

If your phone is the Verizon LTE/CDMA varient, then your stock recovery image for the current 4.0.2 version will be named mysid-icl53f-factory-65895fa8.tgz and the .zip file inside it that contains the stock recovery image (recovery.img) will be named image-mysid-icl53f.zip

edit: also, if you previously had to renamed the /system/recovery-from-boot.p file, then you could just restore it back to its original name and Android will automatically re-flash the stock recovery for you.

Im not on a rom. Just rooted. All i want to do is put the stock recovery back on so i can get the OTA updates. When i get home ill try this stuff again...

Don't know if our posts just crossed in the night, so check out the end of my post above:

edit: also, if you previously had to renamed the /system/recovery-from-boot.p file, then you could just restore it back to its original name and Android will automatically re-flash the stock recovery for you.

If that's the case, that's the easiest means to get your stock recovery back...Android will do it for you on the next shutdown after putting that file back.

Q: can I flash the stock recovery back if I no longer want a custom recovery?

A: Yes. If you return completely back to stock, this will happen when you do the final "flash -w update..." command of that process. You can also just flash the recovery.img file taken from your appropriate device's stock / factory image set (i.e., from inside the image-<model>-<version>.zip file).

Additionally, in lieu of extracting the recovery.img file, you could download them from Koush's site below, but I would caution you that these files do not match (in size) the files you would extract from the stock images--presumably because they were created with a saveprt2sd or similar partition dump command):

• for the VZE LTE (CDMA) GNex, you can flash this: VZW LTE/CDMA "toro" stock recovery image
  
• for the GSM GNex, you can flash this: GSM "tuna" stock recovery image
