As they love to do, AT&T has made another phone in the Galaxy S2 line obsolete with the announcement of the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket HD at CES:

Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II Skyrocket Coming to AT&T | TechnoBuffalo

So at this point the old Galaxy S2 should be free with a new contract and the Skyrocket should be no more than $50 or so.

What do you guys think? Makes me glad I held out, probably just go for the Note at this point anyway, but i think it's crap that the skyrocket just came out like 2 months ago and it's already been one-upped.

Eh - slightly larger screen and better resolution appear to be the only major differences from what I've seen.

I already think that the 4.5" screen is bordering on becoming too large. Doubt the extra .15" will matter much but you never know. As for the screen, I'm sure it will look great, but I am fine with what is on the SR I have. I know that the next phone I get will have an HD screen so I can wait.

Plus, "in the coming months" could mean sometime in the first quarter or it could mean August for all we know.

I'm glad I got the SR and doubt that I'll be mad I didn't wait even when the SR HD comes out.

All of that being said, it seems that the frequency with which companies are releasing new phones has gotten ridiculous. But, I'm sure they know that there will be people who bought the first SR who will end up buying this one too, so I guess I can't blame them.

Though theoretically, if they weren't making money by putting new devices out so often and with (usually) minimal upgrades (in this case going from the current SR screen to the HD is probably a little more major than many of the typical upgrades) they wouldn't be doing it...

This has been known for at least 2 months since it's been released in South Korea. I was wondering if I should wait for the HD version or just go ahead and get the Skyrocket. I ended up getting the Skyrocket in December since I didn't know if the HD version was coming to the U.S. or not.

Yea it kind of sucks but oh well. I'm a huge screen guy and the Skyrocket's screen looks good.

6-12 months is the lifecycle of any new product before it's eclipsed by something better. I was unaware of the HD version coming out. I doubt it would have affected my decision. If I constantly wait for the next, better version, I'll never own anything. I'll miss out on the HD but I'll get the NEXT better thing when it's out-gunned by something even newer.

I can't afford to switch phones every month like some people apparently do. I'll spend my typical 18-24 months with the Skyrocket unless it doesn't last that long. I would have stayed with the HTC Tilt2 I owned until a few weeks ago but it had just gotten too slow and unreliable.

Well crap.

This one I didn't know about.

I just told my wife that the only thing I would give up this phone for would be the same phone with an HD screen or the new Sony

Our 30 days is up this Thursday. Decisions decisions

Scratch that.. it appears that att has us down as getting the phones on the 8th though best buy shows the 12th.

Looks like we are stuck until august/Sept and December when our other lines are eligible

Think of all of the neat phones that will release

I think I bought my SR on the 21st of Dec. Does that mean I could be in the window to trade for the HD?

Possibly. No release date has been given yet though.

I have a call in to my bud at Samsung and will update if i get any news.

He previously told me back in Nov the Note would release at the end of January. Rumors say 2-14. He was also spot on for the SGSII and Skyrocket

But yeah if it releases before your 30 days are up you could trade in

I got mine on dec 21st also. This HD screen is the only thing that would make this phone perfect for me.

I have to say I agree with you. I love the skyrocket, but really feel like I'd be cheating myself by not waiting a few weeks for a 720p screen. I plan to try the note out, but if it's too big I'm going skyrocket HD. The only other option would have been an AT&T nexus, but it doesn't look like that is in the cards anytime soon.

Yeah, I'm a little ticked over the price drop. Might see if I can return and repurchase the same phone and get $50 back.

I think if you are still within the 30 days and bought from a corporate store, you should be able to tell them you paid $X and if they are now selling for $X-50, they should refund you the $50.

If you "return" it and "repurchase" it, they will probably charge you the $35 restocking fee (or at least try).
