galaxy epic sucked. they gave me evo 3d refurb. problems after 2weeks, no camera, green lines on camera ,screen turned 3d and over heated while charging. now they ordered photon, its been in the store for a week ready for me to pick up?
should i just getanother 3d or is the photon better? ive googled this and researched for 4hours now..im torn. my husband says stick with htc claiming photon isnt getting the ice cream...IDC i just want my phone to not have green screen or be in 3d

Might I ask the other members who posted here why they seem sure the Photon will get ICS?

I am certainly pulling for it, but I was wondering if I missed an article or something.

Thanks,

There's no definitive word, either way, if the Photon will or won't get ICS upgrade. That said, there are a lot of factors pulling in its favor:

1) Paperwork is being finalized for Google's purchase of Motorola
2) Tegra 2 Dual-core processor is big advantage in having the capabilities of handling ICS software
3) Motorola is dedicated to making sure that all of it's top tier handsets get ICS upgrade. (That said, Photon was not listed as a phone that will "definitely" receive it, but there was no statement saying that it would "not" receive it).
Motorola Update on Ice Cream Sandwich | The Official Motorola Blog - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA

If you read through the processes that Motorola will go through in order to make ICS available on their handsets, my impression is that the MoPho does have the hardware to use ICS and use it well. Will it be put on the "priority" list? Well, if Sprint has any say in it, I can't see why they wouldn't want to do that considering the MoPho is their only top-tier Motorola Android phone and has been the most underrated in the Sprint Lineup. On top of that, Motorola showed A LOT of dedication to fixing early bugs being reported with the phone, to the tune of multiple updates shortly after release.

Quite frankly, having come over from having 3 different HTC phones within the past 4 years, I was slightly concerned that the MoPho wasn't going to receive the same type of support, due to the lack of fanfare. I quickly realized that I had nothing to worry about at all.

There's a "Software Upgrade News" page that Motorola provides, if you want to keep track of any future updates officially announced:
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c

If I were to bet money on it, I'd bet on the MoPho getting ICS over not getting it.

Great reply, that's good to know.
Thank you

Another thing you want to take into consideration is, the MoPho was used as the main device/selling point for Sprint to sell their "business" capabilities (including other products it has for business on the go). They could've gone the route of still pushing Blackberry, but they didn't. And what better way to promote their priority business phone (e.g. The MoPho) than making sure it stays up to date with Google's most recent OS (e.g. Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich).

Verizon has multiple Motorola phones, which pushes that provider into the forefront based solely on their long time relationship with Motorola (having the first heavily backed Android phone in the Motorola Droid). Sprint hadn't released a full Android phone from Motorola until the MoPho (The i1 didn't really count because it was still a Nextel phone), so while Verizon might be given a priority based on the volume of Motorola Android phones they offer, Sprint & ATT shouldn't be far behind with the Atrix/Atrix2/MoPho/etc.

I had an Epic prior to upgrading to the Photon. My kids got the EVO3D. The Epic was slow and buggy, and I have been extremely happy with my Photon. It is the smoothest Android device I have seen. There are some things I like about my kids Evo3ds. I love swype, and I like the word selection a little better on the 3d although this is minor. Swype works well on the photon. In general the Photon performs better and more consistently. I would estimate the battery life to be 20-25% better than the EVO3D and 45% better than the Epic. With the Photon I am getting about 12 hours with moderate use and 9-10 hours with heavy use. I carry spare batteries. I have the Lapdock keyboard and I use it often. When you use it, the battery of the Photon gets a charge.

I only have one major complaint on the Photon. The quality of pictures taken in low light is not very good. I have tried making numerous adjustments, changing scenes, flash/noflash, etc. Many pictures come out blurry in low light compared to the EVO3D and Epic.

In general the Photon is a better phones, but I am not sure I would use an upgrade. As long as they are giving you a warranty replacement, then take it. The Photon is a smooth device, and you will be happy.

Absolutely agree with you on all points. The battery life is better than my original EVO for sure. The camera, while I thought was better, I've noticed the same regarding low light pictures. The first and only low light picture I took when I first got my phone had me believing it was better than my EVO, but as I started to take more low light pictures, I realized that the camera was somewhat lacking. Video, on the other hand, is WAY better than the EVO.

For me, it was definitely worth the upgrade, although a warranty replacement would be an absolute no brainer IMO. I've said it before and happy to say it again, MoPho is the most underrated phone on the market by far.

I used to wave the htc flag, touch pro, hero and EVO 3D until I got the 3d. After 2 problematic 3d phones, I have the photon. I love it and I am not looking back. It is a great, stable phone.

I was there too. Mogul, Touch Pro, EVO 4G...but, I wasn't buying into the hype of the EVO 3D, so I waited and SO glad I did. I love the MoPho, Motorola's support, AND Motorola's accessories way more than the ones HTC had for the EVO.

My only complaint about my photon is the camera. Aside from that it is a perfect phone. Strong hardware, plenty of storage, no resetting of any sort since they warranties my first defective photon when the phone was brand new back in august. And to revisit the camera info, its pretty bad. Unless lighting is perfect, don't bet on a good picture. Outdoors I can't get a good picture because its too bright, and in dark or low light situations I can't get a clear picture to save my life

I actually do not mind the camera. In fact everything about the photon is better than my previous phones. Then only thing I miss is the ability to add roms like i did on the EVO. Motoblur isn't as bad as I thought but I refuse to go the cyanogenmod (or any rom) route until I am able to use 4G also.

I do not doubt for a moment that the Photon will not get ICS. That would make the Photon an even more awesome phone.

I think you mean that the Photon will get ICS? The way it is worded makes one think the opposite???
