I'm gonna take it that you are using a G1 and flashed the ION build to it. That is not an official T-mobile build so it won't include the myfaves app. Your myfaves still work and you can update them via the tmobile website.

From everything I have read, ION has something called ODEX files which tend to increase the speed of the phone.

Here is a list of all the builds available for the G1 (HTC DREAM) - JAB: Android ROM Build Database v9

I'm personally using TheDudes ROM v1.3rc2. It is super fast and stable!

The latest roms from Haykuro and TheDude (perhaps even JF) utilize bits of Ion to increase the speed of the phone.
