5.9.902 is official!

clicked the above link and extracted it to a folder on my phone. How do I apply it? there are 5 folders each with several items in them as well as 4 other files

You don't want to extract it. Put the entire zip file as downloaded on the root of your external SD card (sd-ext). Then boot into stock recovery to flash it:

Power down, then hold volume up and volume down at the same time and power on. Press volume down to highlight Recovery and volume up to select. When you get to the screen with the ! mark, press volume up and down again to bring up the menu. Use volume keys to highlight Update from Zip and tap power again. Then select the file on your SD card. It should then install the update.

I guess I wasn't one of the ones "soaked" despite being asked to get ready for it by Motorola. For those who have gotten .902, any noticeable differences?

Not noticing much of a difference here so far. I was on .901 tho. 4g -> 3g hand offs seem slightly faster on .902 vs .902 (which was pretty decent to begin with).

Everything else seems the same, which is fine b/c I was really happy with .901

Thanks Somniferum for posting! I am going to forever root when I get home and update asap!

Can I just update over .953 like a normal update? Or do I need to reboot into recovery and wipe then flash like a rom?

I can't wait for it to be pushed to my phone :)

I flashed my stock nandroid and don't see any update yet... who has actually got the official pushed to their phone?

I just found out there's apparently a smaller update that VZW is pushing out to the handful of people who were sent the .901 OTA accidentally. It's supposed to upgrade you straight to .902 without having to backtrack. Some folks who installed the leaked version of .901 have tried it and are reporting good results. Check post #38 of this thread for a link to the file if you want to try your luck. I can't vouch for it since I was never on .901 but the thread makes it sounds very promising.

I can vouch that the file in this post is legit and will successfully update you from .901 to .902 if you sideloaded the .901 update.

If you are currently on .893 (the last official OTA) then you should be able to flash it from stock recovery. No need to wipe data, cache or anything else.

NOW, BEFORE I SIDELOAD THIS...

Am I going to not be on the OTA path anymore like the last leak that was posted...?

Since .902 is now an official OTA and not a leak, it's part of the OTA path now. The file I posted was pulled directly off a Bionic that received the .902 update OTA, so flashing it should give you the same result as if you received it OTA. Of course, if you are nervous you can always just wait until you receive the OTA update -- no need to rush if you don't feel comfortable. I just couldn't stand the wait anymore after holding out on flashing .901 all these weeks while people were raving about the great performance, because I was afraid it might cause me problems with the OTA path. As soon as I saw the official VZW announcement, I was scouring four different Bionic forums nonstop until I finally got the file. ;) Just wanted to share it here for others that are as impatient as me. :D

I'm at .901, how do I even tell if I'm on the proper OTA path? I remember something about if you go to check for update and it says that there is no need to update, then you are on the OTA path.

Edit:

Also, do you know where to get the update file for 901->902?

.901 was a leak, it was pushed accidentally to a handful of users. Unless you are one of those that got it OTA, then you are already off the OTA path.

However -- since they did push it accidentally, Moto also created a patch that goes from .901 to .902 that was then pushed just to those users. It has been posted on this thread (post #38) and people who installed the .901 leak have reported success with it. If it works for you, at that point you will be back on the official OTA path.

I installed the .893 leak a long time ago so it's not the official .893. I just tried to install .902 and it said that installation aborted.

I renamed the file "update" and put it on the root of my SD card, I was able to select it and it looked like it was installing but then came up with the abort message.

Any ideas of what to try next?

Edit: Just tried it again without renaming the file and I received the same result. There are a lot of messages that come up. The fist is some kind of failure that looks like its verifying the version and the second is and Error message. Something about tmp/sideload/.......

I sorted through that XDA thread and found the correct file by comparing file sizes. Update worked perfect for me and I even retained root (with Forever Root). Because of the confusion over there, rather than linking I decided to host the correct file on my Dropbox for now.

Here's the verified correct .902 update file.

Let me get this straight.

I'm on 5.5.893.xt.875 verizon stock. and if I apply the update above, I will be on 902?

is that correct?

thanks

Or you wait a couple days and get it OTA. I can't answer the LINK update question, I received mine OTA already (which went from verizon stock .893 to .902).

Yes, that is correct. The file was pulled from a Bionic that received the 902 OTA update, so you can either flash that file or wait for the OTA to be pushed to your Bionic. Either way you will end up on official 902.

Is .902 being pushed out OTA everywhere? Is it bad that my bionic says "no update available" ??

I am currently on 5.5.893 but at one point was on 5.7.893. I thought I was back on the OTA path. I'm worried

OTA updates are pushed out in batches, and until your turn comes it will continue to say "no update available." You don't have to keep checking (unless you are OCD about it like me) because it will notify you. There doesn't seem to be any way to predict when you will get it, either geographical or date of purchase -- it just seems random, which is why people resort to downloading the file and updating manually.

5.9.902 is not being pushed out OTA everywhere. 5.9.902 has not been released.

There is something called 5.9.902 that apparently is in soak test and has been pushed to a number of soak test participants.

There are copies of that 5.9.902 kicking around.

There is no general release of 5.9.902 at this instant being pushed to everyone. The response that you get that says no update is available is correct.

The much referenced page on the Verizon website says ... "Software Update: DROID BIONIC by Motorola - COMING SOON!"

(5.5.893 was in soak test for 10 days before it was released.)
