Root Petes Bugless Beast or Simply Stunning?

Those who have tried both (2.1 roms) can you comment on the differences? I've always run Pete's (using his new 2.1 ERE25 now) but my buddy recently went over to SS and says his battery life is A LOT better.

I haven't heard much discussion on the major differences in these two Roms (besides the authors).

Any comments would be welcomed.

I can't comment on Pete's ERE based ROM, but my battery life is definitely better with SS than it was with any of his previous ROMs. I'm probably going to give his ERE a shot just to see if there's any difference, but I'm getting really sick of switching ROMs all of the time when there's not a whole lot of difference between them.

same here. Pete's is pretty similar to Chevys and chevys is running amazing for me so I havent given petes a shot yet. My battery life is at least 50% better if not more than that since moving from BB 2.1 v.5(not ERE25) to Chevys SS ere25

I'm using Pete's right now, and have to say, that this ROM is hands down, the flat out best custom ROM I have ever flashed. Seriously

I think the general increase in battery life and responsiveness is just due to the ERE25 base, and all of the ROMs are pretty much going to be the same. At this point, all of the extra "goodies" that the ROMs are coming with are kind of superfluous for me. I have my wifi tethering and a few other things I want set up, so I don't see much point in continually switching to new ones until something big like Flash comes out.

I may give Pete's a shot though, just to compare and see if there really is any difference. I'm downloading it now, I just don't want to go through all of the reinstalling and setup of everything including my theme. I wonder if his update.zip will work coming from another ERE ROM.

I like the launcher Pete included in his ROM (no autorotate)

Can't comment on battery life just yet, but with JIT enabled, Pete's ROM is definitely more stable than Chevy's. Without it, it boils down to whether you like smoked glass or the stock theme.

I am running Pete's ROM here and I just love it, I tried a couple of different ROMS but I always come back to use Pete's ROM

Yeah what I meant about Bugless Beast, is that it would *probably* be the closest to "bugless" that he's developed so far...

And I don't believe the update.zip should be used unless you're coming from another ere25 build...so you should be good vincentp

My phone has never handled JIT very well, so I think I'm going to avoid it. As far as the theme, I have Krazykrivda's 24k theme for ERE based ROMs, so it's going to look the same for me either way. I guess I really have no reason to even try Pete's, it's just that I'm so used to trying a bunch of ROMs, I almost feel obligated.

I am a huge Pete supporter. BB 0.7.6 was on my phone for a solid month, even with all of the 2.1 Roms coming out. Had a misfire flashing to 2.1 v0.5 the first time, but the second time went perfectly, only time I have hit the Set CPU temp threshold i set at 40 C was while netbrowsing and listening to music for over 30 min at a time.

Bugless FTW, and thank god Pete exists, or else I would be another disappointed Droid owner. Credit to Sholes for the Kernel too, 1.2 GHz is over 200% of factory speed, try doing that with a Pentium, hahaha

I have had Chevy's ERE25 on my phone since he released it and have not had 1 problem yet. Battery life has been great, and responsiveness as well. I'm running his new 1.1ghz kernal and temps don't break 45C even after a 3 minute stress test in SetCPU.

The only issue I had was the market thing, but after the fix everything is golden. This rom is so stable you'd almost think it was stock. I haven't tried Pete's yet, but I really don't see a need for me since SS is doing such an awesome job atm.

I'm running SS but I was looking at Pete's ROM. I kinda like Chevy's blue theme. But I'll try Pete's V0.4 out and see if there's a difference in performance.

I kinda want to but I don't know what to use, I don't want instability. I'm probably not going to flash anymore ROMs from now on, unless there's something significantly different. v0.3-4 has been so speedy and no problems that I don't know if I should even O/C. It's faster with the stock kernel than any of the 2.0.1 ROMs I used O/C'd. But I do want wifi tethering back.

I'm on SS 1.0.3 with Chevy's 900ghz kernel. This has been an extremely stable combination over the last few days...not long I know but I've really been messing with it. It did feel slightly less stable before I tried the 900...

In any case I'm very happy and I'm enjoying all of the 2.1 perks with NO instability.

I actually think that the Droid is more limited by voltage than the heat generated by OCing, though. Cause I've been running Chevy's 1.2GHz kernel just fine at 1.2 and it works flawlessly in stress tests, but 1.25GHz gave me random reboots doing absolutely nothing! I read today in his Alldroid section that going from 1.2 to 1.25 involves a substantial voltage increase (which is why he's considering cutting out 1.25, it seems?), so maybe that's why my phone didn't like those 50MHz.

You can try any of the kernels that ChevyNo1 has at the bottom of this thread:

Just download the zip, rename it to update, and put it on your sdcard. Then in recovery, install, allow update.zip, install update.zip

It'll flash the kernel and patch the wifi for you.

It also defaults to 550, so there shouldn't be a risk of boot looping due to too high an overclock.

Probably should start with the 1GHz one, most likely you'll be satisfied with that.

Also, if you flash one of Chevy's kernels, you can get wifi tethering here:

I just installed ERE25 0.4 from Pete.. Setup everything in 0.3 and applying update now

Easiest way would probably be just to reflash the v0.4 update.zip. I know that killed my JIT and custom kernel, and I had to redo it.

I suppose you could also extract the boot.img and tiwlan_drv.ko files from the update.zip and manually replace the custom kernel with the stock.

Thanks Fab, that's what I thought people were using. Yeah, ill use the 1GHz I've never gone any higher than that. I didn't see a need to.

I tested all of Chevy's kernels over the past few days on SS 2.0.0. All were more unstable on my phone than a 900mhz kernel he released, including the 1.25 kernel it came with, even when I set them to lower speeds. My phone is fast, stable, and extremely responsive with all the 2.1 goodness as it is now.
