2.1 ROM - Is it faster than the 1.5 Sense???

Yup, much faster. The only lag I have experienced has been when I was downloading/installing around 5 or 6 apps at once (probably shouldn't have done that...). I've even been checking my available memory with Quick System Info, and my phone still sits around the 30MB mark just like with 1.5, only with 2.1 I see no noticeable difference between 30MB and around 50 to 60MB in 1.5.

With 1.5, I could tell a slight improvement when I knocked off a few things (like Pandora) to get it back up to around 40MB.

Phone will always probably feel faster after a wipe. Let see how it is a few months from now.

Well, not necessarily. I wanted to test that theory a while ago, so I performed a little experiment.

I remembered how fast my Hero was when I first bought it, and wanted to see if I could bring that back. So wrote down all the apps I had downloaded, back up all my contacts, music files, pictures, bookmarks, etc. Then I performed a factory reset.

Of course, it was blazing fast after the factory reset. HOWEVER, as soon as I restored all my backed up data and redownloaded all my apps (which took about 10 minutes) my Hero was slow again. In other words, 10 minutes after a factory reset, my Hero was slow again.

So its not the wipe itself that speeds the phone necessarily, but more like the absence of data.

But when I asked the original question, I was addressing those who had restored all their backed up data, asking if the ROM was fast even AFTER all apps were redownloaded, contacts resynced, music and pictuers reloaded, etc.

Can anyone follow up on that?

this is a little off topic but i am just wondering... well i have seen/read everyone's posts on how amazing 2.1 is and the more i think about it the more i want it but i am not tech savvy when it comes to smart phones. would it be wise for me to even try to upgrade to 2.1? how hard is it to do? if i shouldnt upgrade then when is it expected to come OTA?

Has nothing to do with the clean wipe. Wrong.

We leaped (pun intended) ahead 2 generations of upgrades as far as the opperating system of the phone. It's simply designed better. I have all my same apps and emails set up. The SD card reads faster than when I first opened it up out of the box.

To answer the actual question, yes.
