Help Powering up annoyance...is there a solution?

I have an annoyance with my EVO 3D. When my phone is asleep or powered down (off), the only way to check to see if it is asleep or powered down is to hit the Power button. If I just click it quickly to see if my phone is powered on, but asleep, my phone will power up. I think it should require a two second or more hold to power up, but mine does so with only a click.

Do all EVO 3Ds power up on one quick click? It's obnoxious to click the power button to see if it's asleep or off, only to have it power up.

I generally have this happen at night when I intend to turn it off. Periodically I end up powering it up accidentally, only to wait for it to boot so I can turn it off again.

It's probably because of the feature called 'Fast Boot' in Settings > Power. This feature is like hibernate for PCs. It just shuts down most of the OS, so when you push power, it can boot quickly.

If you disable this feature and turn the phone all the way off, you have to hold the power button for 5 seconds for the phone to turn on, but your boot times will be slower.

Yeah, I know what you are saying. I have had the same trouble a few times too when my phone has been off. It is a rare but annoying occurrence. One quick click is all it takes for my phone, fast boot enabled or disabled makes no difference (I always leave it disabled though).

I just don't even shut off my phone anymore. Put it on silent at night when needed and have my phone alarm set to notify even if the rest of the sounds are off.

Maybe someone knows of an application in the market that allows you to bump the volume rocker to turn the phone on to the lock screen, or a splash screen. Then you can use the volume rocker to check if the phone is on without accidentally powering it on via the power button. All the old flip phones used to allow this.

Alot of old flip phones used to have a status indicator LED too. It would periodically blink just to show that the phone was on and connected to the network, and it would blink faster or a different color to show a notification (SMS, Voicemail, etc.). Maybe there is an application on the market that can do this too?

Widgetlocker does. It's called 'easy wake' mode.

I have mine on fast boot, but I find a quick press of the power button does nothing if it is off, I have to hold it for a couple of seconds for it to turn on which I find fine.

If you not opposed to removing the lock screen, the free market place app called No Lock does the trick for me. I use an icon based program called Screen Off and Lock to turn off my screen and the No Locl program allow my volume rocker to turn on the screen, so I basically never use my power button.

I would love to go back to locking my phone, but find that all the new versions of sense prevent the ability to send the auto text reply to incoming callers that can only happen if your phone is unlocked. I am referring to when an inbound call comes into the phone and it is unlocked, you can click the menu button to send a text reply. You cannot do that if the phone is locked, because you have to unlock it first, which of course answers the phone call.

I pointed that out to to HTC when the EVO 4G got updated to Sense 2.3 and they noted the issue but have done nothing as of yet. Maybe ICS will have it fixed.
