Problems with HTC Hero

I am getting to the end of my patience with my Hero.

Browser - this is beyond rubbish. I have tried using the WiFi on the phone and have found a BT Openzone near me and my phone does not now want to connect to anything else. I have gone into the settings and et the home page to orangeworld, and set the default to orangeworld and set 'use' to orangeworld.

It still bl^^&%$g connects to BT openzone.

If I switch off the WiFi then the browsing fails.

It also doesn't paly ANY videos - not even the free stuff on orangeworld.

If this can't be sorted, my choice is either for the phone to meet a hard or heavy object very rapidly or I ditch it and go for an iphone.

Please help before I have a pile of worthless pieces!!!

Cheers

Per, calm down :)

I am on Orange and I have found the Hero to be the best phone I have ever had.
Now to the help bit, first OrangeWorld will only work if you are not using WiFi.
It seems as though Orange hijack the default browser so you cannot use it with any WiFi so I would go to the market and download either the Dolphin browser (my preference) or the Steel browser and use that instead of the default one, then you can browse the web using WiFi or data connections.

Not sure on the videos as I have tried youtube and some work, some do not.

Also check out the stickies at the top of the Hero forum for a very good list of "must have" apps these may help.

Cheers - calmer now:D. One of those afternoons me thinks:eek::eek:

I have downloaded the Dolphin Browser and it works a lot better than the default one, so I have made Dolhin my default.

I have loads of apps on the phone and am still playing with them.

Haven't tried youtube yet so will have a go and see what comes up.

Hi Per1,

Try connecting to a decent wifi spot and load something like Top Gear up through BBC's iPlayer on the Hero. It's absolutely brilliant and should restore your confidence in the video capabilities :D

Assuming you're in the UK, grab "beebPlayer" from the Market. It's well worth playing with if you want iPlayer on your phone.

Cheers,
Jim

OK, I have tried Youtube, and it does work, provided I hold my phone up high. I live in Stevenage and it must have the worst Orange reception of any area in the UK!!

Orange boasts that it covers 90% of the population - one would think that being 30 miles or so from london woudl fall into that category quite comfortably - but clearly not....

At least I now have a better browser to use - thanks for the advice on Dolphin, and I know that the video works as well

Just crap signal from living in the outback (according to Orange!!)

Cheers

Were you using the Youtube app or the Youtube mobile website? I get much better results using their mobile website & the HTC flash player than I do with the Youtube app.
