Root Cannot unroot, please help!

I'm so sorry about the multiple posts here guys. I really need help now, so no matter what I've tried before to get root, my phone kept rebooting. It was never stable.

So I've come to the conclusion that the hardware is bad. Verizon will send me yet another replacement. However, I can't get the phone the un-root now.

I've been able to get s-on. I am running the newer hboot version of 1.02.0000. I've tried the SD card method. I've tried the RUU method. Everything fails. The phone is currently running cyanogen 7.2.0...or whatever the latest rc is.

Help me please!

did you flash the s-on tool from public:forever [RootWiki] ?

i personally would use this order:

1)run GB ruu while s-off. this should update your hboot back to .92
2)flash clockwork recovery via hboot
3)flash s-on tool
4)run GB RUU one more time to get rid of CW recovery

doing it any other way may leave you s-on with the 1.02.0000 hboot

I finally got it. Sorry, this has gotten me super flustered.

I didn't do it in that order though. I turned s-on first, then updated the recovery and then the step I was missing was to relock the bootloader. Once I did that, I was able to put the GB rom on the SD card and install it.

Phone is still randomly rebooting...getting so tired of this crap.

It's still the newer hboot and it says "relocked", but I don't care anymore.

as long as your aware that someone at htc or vzw could look at your hboot, see the relocked and know that you have unlocked the phones bootloader. if they do happen to notice its possible that they could blame the reboots on something you did via the unlocked bootloader and tinkering with your phones OS. you may as well have just left it s off

i doubt that will happen, vzw has admitted they dont check the phones very closely, but its a possibility you need to be aware of and make your own decision about taking that risk. it would suck to see the full retail amount of even a refurb incredible appear on your bill.

Quick question, when you say run the gb ruu, do you mean the pm... zip file or the actual ruu exe?

Yup... either way is fine :)

Yep, I went ahead and did it with the zip on the sd card and it worked fine. I was able to downgrade hboot and put it back to 100% like it was when I got it.

On a side note, the new one also has a problem. That makes 4 in a row! This one isn't so bad yet though. There is burn in on the top right of the screen. When the screen is white, I can see the time burned in. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it or not to call verizon again. I'm just tired of this hassle. I wish they would come out with the next big thing quick so I can dump this damn phone.

Yeah, I called them yesterday and asked them about that. Since this one has the screen burn in problem, he said that I could get either a refurbished Inc 2 or Droid 3 probably. It looks like the Droid 3 has better specs, but a lot of people seem to prefer the Inc 2 over it still. I'm out of town, so I said that I would call them next week to arrange the replacement so I still have some time to think about it.
