I apologize for asking, perhaps it's been discussed, but what is the delay about? I thought by buying a Nexus, we were going to be in Update Central. And I'm not trying to be funny here, but is the delay because Verizon is mucking it up or is it bigger than that?

It's funny because I bought this phone under the impression that all updates were solely from google. :stupido3:

I was told by Verizon today that they have had some set backs and they were hoping to get it out sometime in May..

Again, when it comes to getting info on phone releases, or update roll-outs, Verizon is not a reliable source. The best you can hope for when talking to a CSR is that they are current on the blogs and forums, and supplement their company fed info with this info to give you a good faith best guess. I like you have heard this date being shifted to "next month" for the past three months. Unlike you I am happy with the phone as is, and willing to put up with the less than stellar radio performance, because everything else about it is so awesome IMO. So any update that possibly fixes this is just a bonus for me.

It has to do with the CDMA radio files that VZW uses. They have to be signed off on by VZW themselves. That is it in a nutshell. I'll see if i can find some links explaining it more.

Conveniently there are no CDMA issues for Apple when they update the iphone. They can release an update to every single one of millions of iphones, CDMA or GSM, at the same time on the same day. Meanwhile, Verizon has to 'approve' our updates for weeks and months after the GSM version is enjoying the latest release.

It's a complete mess, but if there is one thing i've learned, its that if you want to have a pure google experience, the best you can do is get an unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus right now. https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hspa Beautiful pricing too.

I hate sounding this ignorant, but what is CDMA and GSM and is that different from the LTE one I bought on launch day? I can't keep this stuff straight, but that's why I'm asking. Thanks in advance.

CDMA/LTE is the VZW version and now the Sprint version as well.

GSM is everyone else (at&t, tmobile, etc...)

While I have you, is ICS not doing as well as we all thought it was going to initially? I'm wondering why only my Nexus and Prime have it. I thought everybody and their mother would have switched over by now. Is there something wroing with ICS itself. Thanks.

no. it's doing fine. this is standard really. Certain devices of the developmental type ie...nexus and your prime, always get the latest OS first. Also those devices use stock android.

with motorola and HTC and most other Samsung phones they put their own custom ui over top of stock android. This slows the process down greatly. In the past it's usually about six months before you start to see the next OS popping up on devices like that.

Yes, thank you. I knew about skins or UIs as I thought I was an HTC guy for many years, haha, but I've heard a lot about Jelly Bean already being rumored and wasn't sure, since I've been out of my techy loop, if ICS wasn't the cat's meow anymore. Thanks again for your help. It's nice to get a one-stop shopping-like experience from this forum. Thanks for catching me up.

I haven't had one complaint with ICS. I am running stock 4.0.4 though.
