Well what an afternoon - fiddling with my MMs settings on my ICS SGS2, fiddling with my new Dual-Sim adapter and then responding to my wife's question - "darling, as you are so good with these things, would you update my SGS2 to ICS too please?"
Always one to help I said "yes of course love". Was watching the footy on my desktop's SkyGo application but thought wtf - my pc is powerful enough to do both so off I proceeded to update to ICS via Kies.
Well the obvious happened and just as the new firmware had been downloaded and download mode had been initiated on the phone, my PC froze ughhhhh!!! Wife stormed in and said "well football is more important than me, you'd better sort it quickly". Oops, all my wife's pics of our 2 year old granddaughter were on the phone and most of the early ones, saved to the internal SD - I kept this to myself hoping that everything would work out in the end, but fearing an emergency recovery using the 3 fingered press!
OK rebooted my pc, without diconnecting the usb cable or turning the phone off and up popped a message from Kies asking me "do I want to effect an emergency recovery" - I did and lo and behold 15 mins later my wife's phone was back to normal and updated to ICS hehe
Reason for posting?
I have heard and read so much about Kies being poor and thought I would start to address that balance. Kies has always been rock solid for me and the way it has just sorted out a potential "brick" was marvellous.
Three cheers for Kies !!!
