Planned upgrade to v4.0?

More than likely that means that Sony announced that it would be updated. At this point it is up to Sony and the carriers to build, debug, and test 4.x (ICS) before they roll it out to the users so timing of the release is hard to predict. They may or may not have given a timeline for when they plan to release it.

Have a look on the sony ericsson website in their blogs section you will find lots of info about ICS there
They have announced a timeline for their updates to ICS, but it will not update automatically, the reason being that ics was developed initially for the nexus, which is more powerful. They want you to read about it, so you can make an informed decision on whether you want to upgrade or not.
