Help Screen not responding

Just brought a Samsung Galaxy Note. Unfortunately I have a problem. When the phone is locked and I press the home key inorder to bring up the unlock screen. The phone does not respond when I press the screen to unlock it. The same thing happens when i try and answer a phone call. When I swipe the green "call accept" icon nothing happens.
The odd thing is if I do all the above using my stylus it works....Does anyone else have this problem????

Hi JunBringer,

thanks for the reply.
Yes, i've tried a reboot and hard reset.
I've just noticed another thing. I can use the stylus on the screen to accept calls, but then after I finnish the call the screen won't recognise my finger touches....it will only react to the stylus. It's as though there's something wrong with the software which sometimes switches to only recognising the stylus only.
The only thing I've downloaded is angry birds from the Android Market place so no dodgy programs on my phone. Oh well, I'll contact the seller for a replacement.
One other question. I've only had the phone for 3 days. The seller is quite an established online retailer. Would they normally give me a replacement as it's so new or would they only normally send it back to Samsung for warranty repair?

Pretty sure they will replace it since it is only a few days old. Think by law, they have to give you two weeks grace

I'm sure you are doing something wrong and looks like you just said the magic words (bold quoted text above). You can't unlock the screen by tapping/pressing the screen - it won't unlock but just show you an image of a lock in a circle. The correct move is pressing the screen, hold your finger pressed while doing a motion of dragging the lock image out of the circle. Hope this helps.

Same answer here. Try it for a few times and I'm sure it will work.

Hi Theelo

thanks for the input. My wording in my post was probably not very clear. When you press the screen the lock icon should appear but in the case with my phone it didn't appear when i pressed the screen so couldn't swipe it out of the circle.
Anyway I sent the phone back to the retailer for them to investigate and they have sent me a replacement phone last Friday because it had a faulty screen. Now that I have a working phone I have to say this is the best mobile phone I have ever had :)

Hi,

I have EXACTLY the same problem with my Galaxy Note and it is still only a week old. Very annoying as have missed calls because of it. Noticed it since phone was a couple of days old. Brilliant phone otherwise but will also be taking mine back.

As an update, took the phone back to Phones4U today and got it replaced. According to their head office it was the first time they had heard of such a problem and even the helpful sales rep, holding my touch non-responsive touch screen phone in his hand, had to spend 20 minutes going through procedure to convince them and explain what an 'S-pen' was.

So far the replacement phone works fine and it is a brilliant piece of kit but still a pain in the backside as even backing up the old phone via Kies still requires me to re-download the previous packages bought on the google Market; no need to pay for them again purchase wise but will now have to download via a wi-fi conection to avoid going over my 1GB monthly limit. Don't mind as long as this replacement handset continues to work OK.

If you have a Galaxy Note and your touch screen sometimes or even mostly doesn't respond to your touch then take it back. Software updates, removing screen protectors, etc do not cure the problem it is a hardware issue.

No regrets about getting the Note though - chose it over every other phone on the market, including Galaxy S2, Nexus and iPhone 4s; they all look toylike and outdated by comparison. Cutting edge technology will always have teething problems.

Hi Guys,
Just to report a not isolated issue, I suffer the same problem with my note:

When I need to unlock / take a call / stop the morning alarm the screen remain unresponsive to touch, but works with stylus.

The bottom touch butons are also working, but not the touch.

I thought is was a software issue with the stock ROM, then I rooted the phone, tried two different custom roms, and I suffered the same issue.

Finally I put the phone back to its original ROM, unroot, and contacted the seller that will proceed with a replacement.

Note : I googled this issue and was not able to find out so many people suffering the same problem... Maybe this thread will help.

I bought a few USB chargers and the first set I got caused a very strange problem with capacitive screen phones I have. When plugged in the Note would not respond to touch and my wife's Sony Ericsson would just go mad. My Nokia charger and the original work just fine. I guessed grounding issues but I am not sure.

Perhaps this add something, perhaps just an isolated issue?

Regards,
Eric.

Hi Guys,

As update, I received the replacement phone yesterday.

Same version of the stock ROM that was initially on the previous one (and same as the one I put back). The new phone seems more reactive and I did not suffered the bug anymore.

I will remain with stock for a little while to see if any bug raises, but I definitely think that the other phone was having a hardware issue (also because of the performance difference).

Which is fun, is that I was already very happy with the speed on the buggy one, but here it's much better !!!

Me too. It's got to be the charger. Mine was perfect until tonight. Tonight I went to walmart to buy a wall charger - knock off brand - and plugged it in to charge and immediately my touch screen would not work but it did when I used the stylist pen. It's the off brand charger?????

This was a copy paste from above btw ;)
