MyTouch experience so far

New user here, hey everyone.

I've had my MyTouch 3G for about 3 months now, and I'm still on the fence as to if I made the right purchase here. I don't like to rant and rave, but here are some of my issues
1. Low volume on calls
2. Phone will drop calls, maybe 2-4 a week
3. Not a big texter, but I get a lot of failed sent txt messages. I don't know if it's a problem with the radio, i notice my signal strength will jump all over the place at home, from 5 to 3 to 1 to 2 back to 5...very strange.
4. The keyboard has issues, if I'm typing a message and turn the phone sideways then back vertical, the keyboard will get all screwed up. Downloaded the HTC keyboard been giving that a try now.
5. Very sluggish if it has not been rebooted for a while.
6. Camera is horrible indoors, needs a lot of light

On the plus side, love the variety of apps, integrated gmail, GPS with Google Maps is great, never use my stand alone unit anymore, nice bright screen, good size.

For the fun factor I love it, but for basic call features and reliability, I don't know...

Hmmm, I would maybe suggest taking it back to Tmobile and letting them know about the number of dropped calls and basically dropped texts you are having along with the strange signal patterns. That isn't supposed to happen, so hopefully they'll walk you through a way to fix it or just issue you a new Mytouch.

I'd say a lot of phones, especially ones that can multitask, just like computers need to be rebooted every once in awhile. I know that it can be annoying, but keep that up. Mine is rooted, and I still try to reboot it often.

As for the camera, it obviously doesn't have a flash and I know that really hinders my pictures inside, but perhaps a different camera app can adjust the quality for you, try maybe Snap Photo Pro, or Camera Magic, or Camera Pro. I've used each of these and seen great changes between them and the default camera quality, even though its just an app.

The HTC keyboard is the one I use, and I prefer it to the default for sure! There are a lot of extra features and it types so much better! And maybe try this if the problem persists with switching from portrait to landscape mode - before you push the text box to begin typing, rotate your phone, let it adjust, then push to begin typing. Otherwise, just give it a moment to render the keyboard as it should be.

As for low volume, the only thing I can suggest, is to root your phone, then download "Louder Volume Hack" it will boost your volume, and you can set it to how much and what type of volume boost you want. Its nice.

Other than that, I do believe it is a great phone! Not the best, there are flaws and it sucks dealing with them, but still you can make people jealous with its capabilities. Good Luck!

I don't know about all of this either. My call volume is fine and I do need it a little louder than some probably (aint getting any younger). I use Better keyboard which works pretty good for me. I rarely drop calls except going through areas where it's a normal occurence. On occasion, though not to often, I will have a problem sending texts but power cycling will always take care of it. You might also want to get Advanced Task Killer. I usually only use that when things start to slow down but overall I think it's a great phone. I do wish it was a little faster but then there aren't that many fast Android phones yet and definitely not for T-Mo (don't get me started on the whole N1 topic). Obviously the camera will have its limitations without a flash but if you have enough light, it does decent work. It does irritate me that these manufacturers have not seen fit to come out with some more high end Android devices but such is life. I really like Android and the myTouch is sufficient until something better comes along.

I figured i would chime in here as well. I purchased the MT3G 1.2 on the day it was released. I have to say I like the phone but it could use some improvements. I am happy with phone but I will prob go with something new when it comes out to tmobile and pass this on to my 13yo.

I spent the last couple of years on the Blackberry Kick with the 8320 and then the 8900 but I have to say I enjoy this so much more.
