Root Solution to short battery life. (For me at least)

I took a chance and tried the LG Optimizer, and it's a cool program with the setting of the cores and such, BUT the only problem with that was when you set it, it would change to another setting which is pointless! It's not even full controls if it sets to something else by itself.

Juice defender I always thought was just Ehhhhhhh. So i just reinstalled my old friend SetCPU, and I'm hyped on how much longer my battery lasted. I fully charged the phone last night at 12:30am and took it off the charger and didnt use it the rest of the night. Woke up at 7am with 90%(Normally It would be at 80% with no usage overnight). I continued to use my phone throughout the day with the 4g off when not online, screen pretty dim, and all the settings off. It's now 10:37pm and I'm still on 6%!!! That's almost 23 hours on one charge! Found my solution for the battery.

I'm running my SetCPU with 3 profiles. 1st pro is my Screen Off, running it at min and max 192mhz since the screens off to save battery. 2nd pro is my Screen On, running it at max 1188mhz (stock rooted Rom n kernel), min setting at 384mhz. 3rd pro is for 984mhz on Charging. All my governors are on demand and it's working wonders.

I deff recommend you try this setting and let me know if it works with you too. I've always been a fan of SetCPU, and it's living up to its name with me still. Good luck and let me know how it is.

I've gotta say I've been using juice defender along with romantic toolbox and I've been getting 15 - 16 hour days easy with normal Web browsing. I don't really use my phone for music, I use my playbook for that and ofcourse i have the extended battery. But I haven't had to worry about my battery dying its great. With juice defender pro, I don't need to toggle anything on or off, it just works which is exactly what I want.

Btw. I'm only rooted. I haven't put any rom yet.

I dont see a "screen on" profile on SetCPU.
All I see is...
-Charging Any
-Charging AC
-Charging USB
-Screen Off
-Battery<
-Temp>
-Time
-In Call

@Dracunnous - That's cool you have the 3g instead of the 4g, BUT when its on 3g, its still using resources. Why have the data on at all if your not going online or anything? You can still get calls and text without the data on at all, I only turn it on if I need to go online or something, so I personally would recommend disabling data when not going online or nothing, its still wasting battery.

@Insurgency - that's cool your getting that much battery with JD, but I see it like this..... Your using JD Pro(which im sure you had to pay or dload off sf) AND you have an extended battery, and I'm still getting 5-7 more hours of battery than you on the stock battery... That's how I see it at least, but thats cool your getting good life.

@ Kushwreck - No screen on pro? Are you using SetCPU pro or just the free one? Either way tho, as long as you set your screen off to the lowest, when you turn the screen on, it'll go back up to the normal speed. At least thats what I think, but it kinda makes sense if you think about it

you cant really compare like that. all our background apps and usages are different and comparisons like that just dont work

I guess if you say, but I got the proof to back up my comparison for me, and I think it's kinda off that im on a stock battery getting more life than he is with an extended and JD pro, so you decide. I recommend you try my settings for yourself tho since yours is diff, then tell me what you think after.

ya i tried your settings. once again my phone is almost always on. with jd when i did tests a couple weeks back which were legitimate experiments with set variables and controls in which my phone was not used and i only used my samsung galaxy s2 on att. i found that jd added alot to my battery after dimming auto toggle app specific toggling and most of all bluetooth control.
once again it is highly dependant on your use. the difference between having ur phine on or in standby ranges the mA usage from about 40mA all the way to 1500mA and more. thats more than 30x the usage so if ur phone lasted 30 hrs in standby it would last 1 hour under heavy use theoretically. so to test your argument you would need to run a full drain on purely standby or a full drain on constant usage. which both would defeat the purpose of jd and your setcpu profiles. the third option would be to set usage intervals which is very time consuming and inaccurate.
and so you know the stock battery i measured at 1650-1750 mA while the extended battery from ebay that claimed 3700 only measured 2200 +- 8% which is rediculous and lame for an extended battery.

so you cant compare your usage to someone elses. only the person can compare their results in before and after adding an app or modification under about the same patterns of use.

jd would b useless to someone whose phone is always in standby or always in use and it seems as though ur phone is always in standby except for short periods of time. your method would be useless to someone that never puts their phone in standby for more than 5 minutes such as myself. i applied it and it did no real effect as i expected. it works for u not for me. it all depends on usage

Thats cool and I understand what your saying, but I'm not comparing my usuage to anyone elses. The title in this thread clearly says (For me at least) and I explained my usage which is not too much. If you use your phone like I do, then i would expect to see some kinda of improvement like me, but of course if you have all your stuff on all day and play games n such it wont last as long. And Im on the stock battery

if i used my phone a little as you do my battery would last a couple weeks from one full charge.

I use my phone for more then what u guys might be thinking, but im sure not as much as you guys. But either way, from going from 8-9 hr charge up to a 22-24 hr charge is still pretty damn high. Thats more then double the original. Im sure if i used more games n stuff too, id still see a huge improvement. And keep in mind this is the stock battery(plenty of thread with ppl with the same usage as me, with just as shitty battery life), to a battery thats lasting just as long and longer then extended batteries. Im feel the username too The W. Wu for life son! Haha

dude its great ur sharing experience its just not right to make assumptions and act like ur method is best and put down other methods based on how u feel. yes its great for u. dont assume others have ur same usage youll be surprised. when u set up a proper testing method and valid experiment while clearly and thoroughly stating your exact usage in detail then u may have a valid point but u will come to realize that jd is only a positive addition to ur devices battery life.

Im not or never did make an assumption or say mines was best for anyone or better than anyones. I simply jist recommended others try my method, explain diff options and programs i tried, and just told my results.

im guna do this again. u may not realize ur doing these things so im going to point them out to u

your assumptions that others have the same usage and that you can in this situation compare your stock battery to an extended which is completely an invalid comparison.

implying your method shits on his method because he uses j.d.

proof that u barely use ur phone. if we mild to heavy users were to manually toggle data each time we stop using it and resuing it according to ur suggestion we would have ripped our hair out by now but clearly its convenient for u since u dont have to do it as often

once again putting down someone elses method with NO FACTUAL BASIS and comparing their battery life to urs which is another assumption that you have the same usage which u dont

some people may go with what u say frankly because they dont know better. your method of argument and your analogies are invalid and will throw off and confuse noobs trying to get good battery life. please dont state your opinion as if it is factual evidence unless you are sure it is and everything beyond your first post is pretty much non-factual

what he said although i would also like to point out that even though you guys have the same phone, everyone has different uses, that said not all hardware is created equal, for example, my defect connect with 4g on all day no messing with build edits or jd nothing plain stock was giving me 12 hrs with heavy use of streaming music a few videos lots of text some slight browsing some phone calls and some game time but my CPU was defective and it wasn't working as hard as it normally would granted no one really needs to use that much CPU anyways. I should be receiving my new product sometime next week or maybe i should have kept it for the battery life ^^ nah it was a little laggy i do not like lag even little ones never mind carry on.

Whatever man, lets make this clear then. I said what i used my phone for, so rather u use your phones as much as i do OR more then i do, id still expect or hope you to see an improvement with my SetCPU settings. I dont care what you do or how many games you play, my thread title still says "for me", so **** the assumptions n all that stuff. I just found something i thought would help others, so just try my tip and see if it works, if it doesnt then that sux, but if it helps then cool. I never put anyones method down or said urs sux and mines better, i just said thats cool your geyting this much on extended and im getting this on stock. If i put him down, let him defend hisself, but he didnt so why are you complaining and not him? I dont wanna hear anymore bitching. Clear enough??? Title says "for me, for me for me", meaning me and my usage.
