Root Update FA19 to FE16

Are any of these fe16 updates able to be applied by flashing in cwm? I'm on vacation with no PC and for some reason my 3g sucks hard here in Norfolk, VA. ...even with almost a full signal. If not, thank you guys anyway and ill play with this when I get home.

i seen wetbiker say to someone else that you can open it up and flash the phone tar.

I did the Odin-phone.tar flash over CTMod and it seemed to have worked.

Says Baseband: FE16 and seems a bit smoother than FA19.


Also got a pull at 2010 kbps. Only done a couple speedtest pulls on FE16, but i never had over 1800 on FA19 (which was still rare).

I'm in Portsmouth and Suffolk with great service and speeds.

I use cache cleaner so that's been wiped plus I'm just more interested in finding ways to get the most out of 3g I want 2000 KB all the time...I need more info on how to choose the beat perl base and combo for my home tower

Yea I'm not sure what the malfunction is. I'm live just east of St. Louis where I get decent service and 3g speeds. My service isn't that bad here for calls but my 3g speeds are almost unusable most of the time. It always shows that I have a 3g connection, but it constantly tells me download failed and even when working is super slow.

Some places you're just not going to get that. There are so many variables that make you have better or worse service that are out of your control. I have tried every sprint / boost prl that I could get my hands on and I never see over 700kbps and often see 50-100kbps. That's just what I get for service in my "home" area. I actually talk somewhat regularly to a guy from Sprint and he told me that nobody including himself gets good 3g speeds in this area due to the sheer amount of traffic that the tower in the area gets. So depending on where you are, you may never see those speeds.

thanks Roguefoxx, i read earlier in the thread that skater had deodexed it, and was wondering if Kouma did too. or if it was made ext4 , to be able to use KK with it.
or if Skater would be willing to make an image of his work to share- cwm flashable? in post #32

Yeah I've been waiting for one myself, just to play with. I already tried to run KK with the one Kouma posted yesterday to no avail. I know that skater was going to send kouma what he had done, but nothing more has been said. We'll just have to wait!
 
I believe Kouma Kernel don't like the stock file system drivers- RFS? but if (or when) he makes another Halfass type rom. waiting isn't that hard for me.

i believe you can run ct whatever and use odin to flash the tar and you will have fe16 on whatever you are running and still have all settings and kk and all.
 
Yeah, I know as that is what I've always done. CTMod beyond like 2.3 or something isn't based on a boost rom though, which is why I'm interested in playing with stock when it's deodexed and on ext4.

oh ok for you, i see you want to run that rom. the others sound like they want the fe16 on what they are running but i could be wrong.
 
FE16 phone.tar runs great with CM7 Beta 5 and KatoKernel. Definitely better than that piece of CRAP FAIL version. I think it is at least as good and probably better than the EJ baseband.

I also played with the full rooted ROM for a while and made a CWM backup after customizing it with my standard apps. i also let it change the PRL while I was at it to 61008. But, of course it would not restore this backup after I went back to EXT4 from restoring a CM7 backup.

I guess I could ODIN FE16 each time to handle the RFS shit and then maybe restore the CWM backup of my customized version. But, I would rather run a zip first to handle the formatting and then do the restore. That RFSCache.Zip only formats the Cache right? Duh.

I thought I remembered a CWM zip that would format the partitions, not just the cache back to RFS. Mine crashes on formatting the System partitiion when I try to restore the FE16 backup.

I know that Hroarks CM7 zip formats all the partitions to EXT4 as part of the process, so this is a method to rid yourself of the RFS and then restore your CM7 backup.

What is the easiest way to handle this short of someone making a Half Ass Rom formatted to EXT4 out of it first?

I always make it a point to backup the new apps on one of these Boost Roms using Titanium before I gut them. I actually kept the Boost Zone app for the hell of it, not sure why.

I also decided to quit using Maps for a while. I get better results and functionality frpm using the combination of YP and the Telenav from this new Rom. I also have the Browser version of Maps as a favorite in Dolphin just in case. I hate all that Latitude stuff in maps and YP and Telenav have great search features that I think are still better than maps. This is strange for me, since I have used Maps a LOT in the past.

I don't make backups of the stock apps on the new ROM with a older version number than I already have in CM7. I know that Titanium can save
several copies of each app, but I am not convinced that it will not overwrite a newer version with an older one. Let me know if I am wrong on this.

Thanks to Inigo and Kouma for making this happen so fast. Videos run much better now, even during the day. Web pages load faster too. Speedtest results seem inconclusive, but the phone works better. I think they might have done some stuff to the phone app to fix some glitches, but I am not sure how to incorporate that into other ROMS like CM7, other than any benefits from the baseband.

Have any devs had time to sift through this and see any jewels besides the baseband that can be incorporated into CTMOD or CM7. Boost might have actually done good this time.

I've got something cookin. Skater sent me something he cooked up, but I haven't had time to check it out just yet. I do have a perfect copy of the rooted image on ext4 but koumamod.apk bricks it. I'm still working that out, then it will get deodexed and published
