Root Successful Evo 3D ROM flashes?

Actually...

While doing S-Off I had an accident* and wiped everything except Hboot. Recovery, rom, sdcard, data... all gone**.

It is nearly impossible to completely, 100% brick these.


* The method is safe, I slipped and did it log before it was time.
**I did have backups on another sdcard, and on my computer, but it wasn't necessary to get running again.

I never said it was necessary, I just like to not have to reinstall/restore everything, so I always keep a backup.
 
I was under the impression that the Juopunutbear HBOOT would let you install whatever you wanted on this phone. (as long as it is a rom designed for this phone). :/ I don't think you need to downgrade the hboot...

well i use the jb hboot..and still cannot flash aosp roms..we need a aosp kernel designed for our phone

Jb only modifies the hboot it doesn't replace or downgrade it.....

And from my experiences I'm not able to flash anything based on 2.3 whether its sense or not it would boot and go to the lockscreen but it would reboot itself immediately after and continue to loop......

As I searched I found that Evo 3D S-ON hboot 1.5 users were having similar problems with ICS Roms which leads me to the conclusion that we need to have S-OFF hboot 1.5 to flash GB Roms

i was also reading that some of the 3d users were having trouble with some of the ics kernels that most of their aosp roms are using..some are still having trouble..i was talking to a dev of cm9 on the 3d and he was saying that things will be much easier for all of us when htc releases source for kernels..

i could be wrong but after a little reading about downgrading hboot it seems that part of the process includes bricking the device?

seems very risky..but may be well worth it if possible

I would assume s-off would be needed to flash other roms, and no real reason not to leave it that way anyhow, s-on is just like css security on dvds or macrovision on old VHS. The "security" is DRM with the side effect of you basically not being able to brick it because you can't modify anything. I use Juopunutbear hboot anyway and I have not had one problem installing roms on this phone. I have tried 3 different ones.

yep..you can install sense roms all day long..the trouble is when you try and flash an aosp ics or aosp gb roms..cm9..aokp..cm7 etc etc
 
I've heard somebody say that our hboot version is specifically made to support ICS. That may be why GB ROMs aren't working, but I don't know why AOSP ICS ROMs aren't working....
 
Aokp is android open kang project...competitors of cyanogen..aosp is android open source project..google source..stock gb..stock ics
 
Also my opinion is that with a slightly modified ics kernel for just our phone..we will be able to use any aosp ics Rom

agreed..looks very nice..but gb wont flash..unfortunately

so far i have successfully used

1-icsense 0.4..decks rom..3.6 sense
2-sense4-chubbzlou's rom..4.0 sense
3-sense4-newts rom...4.0 sense
4-ZR3DX 2.1..dropzeroc's rom..sense 3.6
5-d3rp ics..il duce..sense 3.6

everything flash's fine..only things broken are the items noted in each rom..sense 3.6 obviously doesnt have any issues..but when you pair it with Anthrax kernel it breaks netflix and 3d...all sense 4 roms have 4g and 3d broken..everything else works just fine..

the list of aosp roms i attempted to flash is endless and would go on for days

i can confirm that "2-sense4-chubbzlou's rom..4.0 sense" 3D is working its just not available in the Rom but if you play a 3D Youtube video i guarantee it will work

Maybe they fixed it sense I last used..what about the camera?

Also I might add that I have seen a few ppl say that there isn't really a big difference between 4.0 and 3.6..I would have to dissagree..4.0 seems to have a way better Ui then 3.6...and to me all around seems smoother..I would prefer to use 4.0 but can't use anthrax kernel with it so ill stick with 3.6...for now
