Is the SG 10.1 better than the Ipad 3??

Can the SG 10.1 perform just as good as the ipad 3? Better? Not even close?

At my office, several of the managers use the ipad for emails, note taking, and keep track of their schedules. A coworker of mine was interested in getting a tablet and he's looking at the ipad 3 only because of what the managers have been brainwashing him with, LoL, but was wondering if I could make a strong case for the SG 10.1.

Screen- the ipad wins, not by much, the pixels are usless because your eyes and brain cant decifier that much resolution on that small of a screen.

Calendars and widets- Hands down the Galaxy Tab. The built in calendar and syncing are far better and easier to read. plus u can have it as a widget.

Storage- really, who cares for work, both will have way more than enough

Notes- I LOVE the options of keyboards for notes and different note apps you can get or that it already has FREE. i personally use SlideIt keyboard @ $5 and thinkFree $10 for notes.

Email- both are fine-tie

bottom line- i sell both where i work and i have a GT, ipad is not even in the picture for me. but for my customers, the ipad is easier. but with what they are doing i would still say the GT, the notes and calendars are much better. the widgets can get him the info he/she needs by simply unlocking the screen instead of opening a app.

Depends what u mean by better. That's a big question and different for different people. I would say the I pad is better made higher quality, runs smoother and has more apps. Down side is still flash and using the comical iTunes, the gal is Android open source and feels as if its going places. Mind you while Samsung can't get there finger out with updating its swinging back to the I pad

I can download any type of file I wish to my internal memory on my Tab.
I can also read and transfer files to and from my USB Jump Drive using the Samsung USB adapter.
That's a huge plus for me.
I can also download, upload, and edit files in my Dropbox account. I can only view them with the iOS version of Dropbox.

My biggest problem with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is that you can only print on a Samsung printer. I didn't plan to buy a new printer when I bought an expensive Samsung tablet. You can't even print to a PDF file. Managing files is another problem. Otherwise it's an excellent device.

I often feel this type of question is the same as, for standalone GPS users, which is better - Garmin or TomTom?

They both do the same thing, almost as well as each other. It's a matter of personal opinion and taste. (I prefer Garmin GPS, by the way).

I went from iPhone 4 to Galaxy S2 as I prefer the freedom of Android. The actual functionality of the two phones, in my experience, is so similar.

Based on the phone experience I bought the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
My coleagues in the office use iPads. We do the same things, in the same way at the same time. Mine is FAR prettier though! :eviltongue:

Once I made the move to Android devices I must say you'll have to prise my Android devices from my cold, dead fingers!

Printing: I use Google Cloud Print from my Galaxy Tab and from my Infuse phone. I works well as long as you have a computer turned on and able to print at home. With printers that are Cloud Print enabled, you can bypass a computer. With Cloud Print , your mobile device does not have to be on your home network. It can be anywhere with an Internet connection.

Use Printershare for printing to any wireless printer over a WiFi network.

Personally as one who has used both, I think the ipad 3 is much better. The Galaxy Tab STILL has too many bugs that Samsung will NEVER fix.

As others have posted, ES File Explorer is a great app for managing files.
I use it for managing files on the tablet, and for accessing files on my computer.
I can copy files from computer to tablet or from tablet to computer.
I also use it to play music files on the computer, as well as accessing photos.
And these tasks are all done via WIFI; no need to connect the tablet to the computer.
As for printing, I tried one called Cloud Print. My printer is an older HP connected to the computer via USB. Cloud Print did the job.

I don’t think that anyone can outrun configuration of ipad 3, I have seen its working and it run very fast with 3G services. I just bought a new ipad 3 from online sites. It’s my second ipad in 2 years and very happy to see that they have put new things this time too.

Since my last post, I have purchased an iPad 3. I had a chance to play around with a family member's iPad, and I was impressed.
The screen is awesome, and the fact that I do not experience any lag is great.
I would always experience some type of lag with my SGT 10.1
I found a 3rd party app that allows me to download, upload, and edit files in my Dropbox account. It was a paid app, but it's well worth it.
I purchased a USB Camera adapter to transfer my photos from my digital camera to my iPad. The only thing I can't do that my SGT 10.1 could do is transfer files to and from a USB jump drive.
I still use my SGT 10.1 from time to time, but the iPad 3 is now my daily driver.

On mine, I get home screen lag, the browser will freeze up, the touchscreen will become unresponsive (hitting the power/sleep button to have it go to sleep and to turn it on again solves it), and it will freeze up now and then. And sometimes I'll have 30% battery life and the next time I use it it's dead. Then I plug it in and find out the battery is completely drained. But that's Android- a bit buggy.

I do like the widgets. It's also lighter which is nice. It's also nice to have a different platform for my tablet vs. my phone. When it works, it is up there with the iPad.

You can drag/drop files to your pc using a usb cable with an iPad. 3rd party app will take care of that.

In my opinion the iPad is a overrated toy. A toy you can't customize at all and have little control over. My Galaxy Tab on the other hand is a powerful laptop replacement that I can tweak and customize to my heart's content.

If you want a giant iPod Touch to play games on and just want an overpriced toy status symbol, get an iPad. Otherwise Android is the way to go.

I'm not a fanboy either, I like both myself, but the Android experience would be better if Google lock it down from companies putting there twist on the devices, pure jelly looks and runs awesome but wait till the get there hands on it, Android will have a more of the market share if I was consistent, I hope Google comes out with a Google Nexus 10.1.

I don't have an iPad, but my sister does and loves it, she uses it all the time.

I find that half the websites I go to on my Galaxy Tab don't work properly. Either I can't enter text, or I can't "click" on certain things and have to use my PC instead.

Also my wifi always turns itself off, even in my house. The tablet was using tons of date because the wifi was always off. I have to disable data completely and often have to turn off wifi and then turn it back on again to connect to my home network.

Another pet peeve is many of the apps and games for the iPad are not available for the Galaxy Tab. I can get them on my Droid Incredible 2, but not the tablet.

As a result, I really don't use my tablet very much. I end up using my phone or my PC. I only use it to watch a movie or tv show once in a while. I wasted my money on the data plan from Verizon. That said, I still prefer anything Android over iOS.

Good god, anything that uses the Honeycomb OS needs to be put out of its misery. Worst OS ever developed. Once the Tabs get ICS or JB (still waiting Samsung!), this will be a whole new tablet and def comparible to the iPad. Right now though, with honeycomb, it's crap.

I personally can't stand not being to plug my device into my machine and move files on and off like a mass storage device. I LOATHE iTunes and to have to use it to move anything on and off the device, and only be able to move what iTunes actually supports.. Yeah, no thanks. Love my GT and once we get ICS, I will be loving it even more. Getting ICS on my phone got me all pumped up for what it will do on my tab!!

Hi all.
I have no experience with any Apple devices (other than an Airport Express for my WAP), so I can't say which is better.
But what I can say is that my Tab 10.1 works pretty darn well for me.
I would think that how a device works for someone would depend on what
he/she uses it for.
My wife and I use ours just for fun, and for that purpose they work great.
For me, it's web surfing, Photoshop Touch, Sketchbook Pro, an app called ColorSplash,
being able to listen to a particular radio station that, while local, is difficult to tune in even on a radio (I use iHeart and TuneIn), and listen while doing other things.
Only one game for me, Solitare.
There are, of course, the different on line forums I like to read (like this one).
Right now, I'm sitting in the outside screened patio. The weather is pretty nice here this
morning (South Carolina). A bit on the humid side, but a ceiling fan set on medium speed
gives just the right amount of a breeze to make it really nice to sit out here, and read
and post on this forum, and do other things.
The Tab certainly isn't without a few things that need improvement, but for me, and how I
use it, it's just fine. And from what I've read about ICS, those improvements are coming
very soon.
