Should I Upgrade?

Somewhere on Earth
I'm currently using the Samsung Galaxy Indulge and am wanting to upgrade very soon to the Connect or Esteem. I like the look of the Connect with the dual core 1.2ghz processor, 5mp camera, front facing camera, and Gingerbread, plus the NOVA screen. I use my phone for web surfing, calling, photos, texts, and social networks almost everyday. Not heavy usage normally, few minutes here and few minutes there - unless I'm at a political phonebank doing calls for a few hours which is the most stress I put on my phone. Will the Connect work? I'm reading good things and bad things about it like dismal battery life (although Indulge is  ..I get a full day on the Indulge normally - using Any Cut to cut 4g) and overheating. Connect users - your thoughts?

Thanks!

I asked a few months ago about the Esteem, but had to get a new computer instead. I got good reviews about the Esteem, but with Connect out I want to see what Connect people think.

Google esteem vs connect

Go to metro stores and feel them in your hands.

Realize you love the lightweight slim design of the connect and it's superior guts.

Realize that you also love the solid feel of the esteem and can actually use the HDMI out to not look at porn.

Here's my rundown...

Esteem pros
Good development already started
HDMI out
Twice the internal memory.
Feels solid
Slightly larger (0.3 in) screen

Connect pros
1.2ghz dual core processor
Twice the ram
Feels light at first then you realize the esteem is, in fact, a brick
Ability to use 4g while talking on the phone

I'd think of more but those are most important to me.

I think the only thing that holds me back from a sure yes is the overheating and battery issues I've been reading about. I really don't want to suffer through bulky case and like the slimmer phone - especially coming off the Indulge. About the only time I use HDMI is with my laptop so not a big concern for me. I guess I'm really leaning Connect, just want to hear more about the above issues.

Thanks for the speedy replies.

I think the battery issues are mostly easy to handle. I use a custom launcher, keyboard, typically don't use 4G (hell 3G vs 4G little difference THANK YOU METROPCS!). Thanks Tokenpoke. I won't be overclocking or tethering or anything and read the ZVA fixes overheating so I guess I'll see how it goes haha. I got 7 days to take it back if I think it's a FAIL! regardless when I buy it.

Thanks, please keep input coming I'm still interested in what people think.

First off going from the Indulge to the Esteem is kinda a downgrade. The hummingbird in the indulge outperforms the esteems snapdragon. But realistically if all you do is surf the web the indulge is more than enough. The esteem is cool if u have the 70$ plan with free movies and such as the esteem does have the HDMI out port. Honestly I would say the connect is more for gamers or developers who need the higher performance to handle these resource intensive programs. But with the connect being 100$ cheaper than the esteem if you are gonna upgrade it dosent really make sense to pay all that extra money for an inferior phone. Just my opinion :)

So you're saying Connect? Which is what I'm leaning. Indulge is starting to slow and freeze (nonetheless getting old :p) up so I defiantly want to upgrade.

I made the switch from the old indulge to a Connect a few months or so ago, and haven't looked back. Overheating has not been a problem for me. There maybe times where I might be using a lot, like netflix or pushing it by benchmarking it while overclocking it. Those times the phone reported 100~109f... I defiantly did NOT feel the heat, like I did with the Indulge.

Speed wise, on stock speeds it runs circles around the Indulge out performs it in every way. It is able to do everything that I throw at it. I am very impressed with it. Battery is okay, but don't get me wrong it is much better then the Indulge. On heavy use, running at stock speeds I can get about 8hrs. Very light use, I have found it gets 12hrs or so.

Also, it gets VoLTE and can do VoLTE+LTE Data at the same time (that means you can call and browse the web at the same time). VoLTE (and VoLTE + LTE Data) was promised to the Indulge but they never brought that. The Esteem is in the same boat as the Indulge, it has the same 1st gen LTE Sim Card and cannot do that.

The way I see it so far

Connect if you want
-better processor
-A more crisper & clearer display that is un-noticeably smaller then the Esteem
-VoLTE+Data at the same time

Esteem if you want,
-Notification lights, the Connect doesn't have this
-Bigger screen, pixel density is closer to the indulge. The Connect has a high pixel density screen like the iPhone 4/4s
-Mini HDMI out, you can hook it to a TV
-Accessories like a dock for watching videos, and extended battery from LG. Wish the Connect had the same treatment

I love my Connect, my only regret is not being able to get it sooner than I did...

You don't to take my word for it though here is a comparison, with the Indulge thrown in for reference... [Link]

Neither phone on MetroPCS works in VoLTE mode right now. You can talk and use data on Connect at the same time, but it is not VoLTE. Once MetroPCS rolls out VoLTE, then LG Esteem must be capable of voice and data at the same time. I know LG Esteem is capable of LTE because Verizon successfully tested VoLTE on LG Revolution, Esteem's twin.

Not for everyone. Read the forums. I think they are trying to hide a batch of defective phones. My mom's Connect was not any warmer than my Esteem without the update. I have updated it anyway for her though. The same with Esteem. Some Esteems had rebooting issue, so they issued an update; however, most Esteems were fine without an update.

I'm getting all these mixed comments that it does work and doesn't work haha. My Metro store is really great and go the extra mile for customers so if were to have a problem I know they'd help me in the right direction quickly. The only phone that appears to be coming soon is One V and I'm sure for the price they'll set I mine as well get the Connect. I mean there are days I really can stress my phone down and other days I hardly touch it. On a typical days its a few checks of social media and web, couple calls, and texting likely the biggest use. From what I can see the Connect is a good choice...maybe LG/Metro will release ICS
