phone won't turn on

I have only had my Samsung Galaxy 3 for 1 1/2 days. I killed the battery at a concert, came home, charged it. Next morning I cannot turn phone back on. I took batery out trying to restart it but nothing! Please help. This is my first "smart" phone so I don't know any of the tricks.

When you plug it in to charge does the red light come on ??
