So my friend installed the ICS update for her Rezound and has since been complaining the phone is very glitchy and been acting funny. While I cant say what exact problems she has been having, she did want to know if there was a way to go back to gingerbread. Is this possible?

Thanks

It would be easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than it would be to revert her Rezound to Gingerbread. Did she go through the factory reset / battery pull process to seal the deal on the upgrade? (Yes, it's annoying but has a great success rate).
Finishing the process on the update is like moving from a Ford to a Ferrari.

There are no downgrade options for phones once they've been upgraded to ICS. What you will need to to is root the phone and flash the stock Gingerbread firmware along with the stock kernel to put it back which will essentially erase everything on the phone.

Before you go down that path, a factory data reset will often clear up problems encountered with a major platform change (and the move from Gingerbread to ICS was a major platform change.) A factory reset will clear all apps and user data from the system partition of the phone and reinstall a fresh copy of the CURRENT operating system, meaning ICS.

A good plan of action is to do the following ...

Make sure all your contacts are sync'ed with Google as they will be erased from the phone. Backup any/all text messages and emails if you wish to keep them as the databases will be reset. Know all your logins and settings as these will need to be re-entered. Backup app data, although it would be better to start fresh with most apps, in case there are incompatibilities between the ICS and gingerbread versions. Finally backup all files (including the hidden ones) on the SD card and internal storage partition. A factory data reset should not affect those files, but it's best to have them backed up in any event.

If you have sync'ed your app data to Google's servers and checked automatic restore, once you reset the phone, the apps and the app data will be reinstalled automatically. Be advised that this will happen as soon as you register the phone to the original gmail account, so make sure you are connected to wifi first if you have a limited data plan. Also note that as the apps are reinstalled it will throw all the icons on the home screen and IMHO make a mess of it, so I generally uncheck the automatic restore option when resetting and manually install the apps that I want back.

Once you are sure you have all your important data backed up, go to settings>backup and reset and select factory reset.

It will be a bit of a nuisance to have to re-setup the phone, but it generally clears up the problems.

Bhelios--should I have her do that before the factory reset? I guess shut it off and pull battery. reinstall and give it a shut?

Lunatic59--Thanks for the instructions on how to do the factory reset. I'll have her pop the battery out first and see if that does anything--not sure of it will--then. i'll do the factory re-set thing.

Also note that most people who have had issues with the ICS OTA update have had better luck flashing the official 3.14.605.12 RUU, but it will factory wipe the phone (possibly the very reason people have fewer issues anyway).

Also, most people who have tried the new Global Mode RUU (4.3.605.2) have noted significantly increased performance, increased battery life, reduced operating temperatures, and fewer signal drops.

Both updates are available on Android Police's website.

Might be a stupid question...but where do you go to make sure that the app data is backed up on Google's servers? I have a feeling I might try to do the factory reset tonight. Thanks.

If yo go to menu>settings>Backup & reset you will see the checkbox to backup app data to the gmail account listed there. If it's checked, you're okay, if not, check it and then give it some time to sync, especially if you have a lot of apps.

Ok...I think I found that location. Had to locate backup & restore under the privacy tab. I don't think mine was setup, so I selected my gmail account under the backup account line. Is there any place online or anything to verify the information has been backed up so I can be sure before I do the reset?

Also...is there an easy way to backup in hidden files and things to the SD card like you mentioned above?
