[Verizon] Getting verizon/samsung to replace phone

that is the baseband bud i do promise you that, its the current version of them and i dont know what else you can do to get it fixed, you will have to have the device replaced. i dont know any other way of changing them, you might get lucky and be able to flash these and have the issues fixed but i highly doubt it.

Well I got good news!! Verizon is replacing my phone because its still under the manufacture warranty. I went in, told the rep my problem, she said usually when that happens its the phone. She looked it up, said that I would receive a new one in a few days and to send the defective one back. I said, well I don't have insurance on this one and she said its covered under the manufacture warranty.

I was so happy that I left the store without asking if the new phone will be coming from Verizon or Samsung. I know if its coming from Verizon it should be here tomorrow since they ship next day. I didn't get a tracking number or anything though. Has anyone had a phone replaced like this?

Well I just got off the phone with Verizon and I'm not at all happy with the in store service. Turns out the order was never processed. Because I know the package will need a signature I wanted to see when it would arrive so I called VZ customer service and they had no record of the order. They called the store and turns out the order was never processed. The tech person I spoke to placed the order though and it will be here tomorrow. Unbelievable!! I have had the worst experiences dealing with people in the VZW stores and just when I thought my luck was turning around I find out it doesn't.

wow that kinda sucks, but it seemed to have worked out in your favor...

told you it was a phone issue :)

glad you are getting it replaced, and be watchful of this one, it may have the same issue

Well we'll see, i'm still waiting for them to e-mail me my order status. Its been over an hour, I know i'm being picky but after what happened this morning can you blame me.

That's why you should always call customer support instead of going to the store. You would have saved time and gas.
Although one time the customer support did forget to process the order for a replacement. But they were very apologetic and fixed it right away:thumbup:

Normally I would but I didn't think there was anyway they could help me because I didn't have insurance on the phone and since I had no idea when the phone was purchased I wasn't counting on the manufacture warranty being there so I thought for sure I would have to buy a new phone. Any idea how long it takes for the confirmation e-mail to arrive? I'm still waiting for one and getting nervous it wasn't processed.

You usually get it once it ships. Give it a few hours and you should get an email saying it shipped

I couldn't wait :) Called up again, the rep said they were waiting for the supervisor to approve it. I asked if they could get it approved now because of all the trouble i've been through today. The rep got it approved (or atleast said he did) and said it would be shipped out today. Still waiting for the e-mail lol.

Finally got my e-mail confirmation, the phone will be here tomorrow by 10:30am!

Hello,

I purchased my phone through a VZW corporate store in January 2012. No insurance or warranty was purchased. I am supposed to have great coverage in my residential area. My signal and data connection is so bad. I have flashed the updated radios, flashed excellent Jelly Bean ROM's and all I can remember is that my connections were a bit better when I was on ICS AOKP B40.

(1) I have read on these forums, they say that it can never be a ROM to cause bad connections, is this true?

(2) Should I flash to stock and back to Jelly Bean or call VZW customer service and ask for a replacement?

(3) Is your replacement a Brand New phone or refurbished? Will it have like the updated radios when you receive it tomorrow?

(4) Since this is a 4GLTE phone, pressing *22899, is their evidence that this can damage the phone?

I was with TMobile for 5 years and switched to VZW for signal. I switched from Iphone 4s for 4GLTE speeds, and I am not receiving what I paid for :(

If you purchased your phone through a VZW store, you automatically have a 1 year Mfr. warranty, even if you didn't purchase an extended warranty, or insurance coverage. So you do have time to still have the phone replaced if need be.

(1) I have read on these forums, they say that it can never be a ROM to cause bad connections, is this true?

Not exactly. If it's a buggy ROM and whatnot with radio tweaks, it COULD affect your connection. That said, most ROMS that people are using are quite stable. I'm on JBSourcery, and I've not had a single issue.

(2) Should I flash to stock and back to Jelly Bean or call VZW customer service and ask for a replacement?

I'd say you might want to try flashing a couple different ROMS / versions to test to see if it's something in the works, that is causing it to be an issue. However, is your signal issue something that has just popped up recently, or has it been like this from day 1? And have other people or other phones worked there fine, or is it just something like building material causing poor signal?

(3) Is your replacement a Brand New phone or refurbished? Will it have like the updated radios when you receive it tomorrow?

At this point, it's most likely a refurb. But, that doesn't mean "oh great it's junk". Sadly, the quality control if it IS actually a refurb'd phone (and not just one that someone returned with no issues that's been resent out to the field), can be hit or miss. Rarely you will see refurbs that still have issues, but as long as you're under warranty, they'll still replace. If that happens more than once though, I'd push for either brand new, or a different phone. (Short version: When phones are newly released, there usually isn't any 'refurb' stock to replace defective phones with, so customers usually get sent out a brand new phone. As the phone has been out longer and longer, there become some in the warehouse to send out, so then you usually get a refurb. Again though, that could mean actually refurbished, or could just be one that someone bought and returned and had nothing wrong)

(4) Since this is a 4GLTE phone, pressing *22899, is their evidence that this can damage the phone?

This was an issue with the Thunderbolt back when it launched, and it was basically screwing up the SIM card in the phone, causing problems. The 4G activates through the SIM, and doesn't need to dial a *228 number. That said, the *22899 is basically an auto-program for the 4G services, roaming, etc. The phone will actually auto-dial it when needed, or when it thinks it's needed. There really isn't a need to dial it manually unless there's an issue. That said, it wouldn't hurt your phone if you dialed it. Pretty sure they resolved the *228(xx) related issues after the Thunderbolt.

I was with TMobile for 5 years and switched to VZW for signal. I switched from Iphone 4s for 4GLTE speeds, and I am not receiving what I paid for :(

Let me ask this too, what area are you in, and what speeds are you getting when you do get an LTE signal? Every area I've been in LTE-wise, speeds are great. However, there ARE areas (and this isn't always phone specific, but does seem to be different between phone models) that some phones will pick up / hold the 4G better than others.

Replied to your posts in bold above.

The way it SHOULD work, is that if I have a 4G signal, then it shouldn't revert back to 3G unless the 4G signal is degraded to the point where it doesn't work, in which case it should hand back to the 3G if it's stronger. But it seems to be that the phone sees both, and goes back and forth. There are some places where as soon as I walk inside a restaurant or something, I switch from 4G to 3G. Other places, it stays the whole time. They need to refine those sorts of things, but I've had upwards of 20Mbps speed tests in some areas, with most averaging 10-ish when I'm in a 4G market. Just curious as to how your area is. Or, if it's that you SHOULD be getting 4G, and aren't getting it at all or something like that.

I received my replacement phone today. Good news it works great on 3G but on 4G I still have the network drop every few minutes. Of course this is a huge improvement over the previous phone. I still have the .10 baseband. The phone is updated to the 4.04 firmware and the FC 04/ FC 05 radios. Not sure what i'm going to do since I never really used 4G anyway. I will probably call and request a new phone in a few days once i send my old one back.

I'm not in a 4G area (closest ones are a half hour in two different directions). So for me, I'm mostly in 3G, and the way everything handles in the phone, I'd still be happy if I never had 4G anyway. I see the 4G as a bonus, but that's me personally. If I was doing a lot more than relied more heavily on the speed, it might annoy me more.

Other than double-checking your data settings (Roaming, Automatic, etc), hard to say. Also, are you using your original SIM? Perhaps call CS again, see if they'll send you another to try?

I am thinking that since this phone was released about Dec 13, 2011; anyone should be able to use at least the manufacturer's warranty irregardless of where purchased until about Dec 12, 2012.

Just sayin' . . . . . .

Right, but if the original phone replacement was done via insurance, it does throw stuff off. So if the original phone was replaced say, for damage (as in this case, soup), and then THAT one dies..it kinda throws off the reps. You'd go in the store, they'd see that the original one was done by insurance instead of regular mfr warranty. At that point, you're at the mercy of what the rep wants to do. Some reps wouldn't even look at the first replacement, and would just go by original purchase date and replace it as normal. But if you get ones that go "heyyyyy waitaminute", then you have to argue with them half the time. They kinda put you in the "hey, not MY fault you broke your first phone and have to do insurance instead"...like once you go insurance, you STAY insurance.. It all comes down to the rep, and how they feel that day.

Need a little help. I just unlocked and rooted my phone using Wugfresh's toolkit 1.5.3 When I try to go into recovery mode I get a graphic if the Android guy and a "!" then the phone just sits there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

you need to flash a custom recovery
IE: clockwork touch, clockwork recovery, TWRP, or anything else.
information on how to do that can be found here:
