Ok hope this doesn't sound stupid but,,,I'm interested in buying this phone for basically two reasons, that being to take pictures and mail them, or to read any email that I may have. That being said,,,could I right out of the box use the camera,,or send email via a wifi hot spot,,, or would I actually have to purchase air time to even activate the phone. I really don't need any suggestions on any other purchases for what I'm trying to do,,just answers this to question would be appreciated,,,thank you.

I'll take a stab at answering because I use the phone basically as you intend to. For me, it's a pocket sized tablet/camera/MP3 player/portable game machine, not a cell phone (particularly since it has a bad ESN and can't be activated with Sprint). So for your questions:
1) "could I right out of the box use the camera": yes
2) "or send email via a wifi hot spot": yes
3) "or would I actually have to purchase air time to even activate the phone": no, just bypass/skip the activation

As long as you have wifi you can hook into you'll have internet access. Recommend you add a microSD card for additional picture storage (if you intend take/keep a lot of pics). I'd also recommend putting it in airplane mode to disable the transmitters, then turn on wifi so that it's wifi only.

Hope this helps

I own the LG Marquee and to answer your question. No you do not need to activate it to use it. However the ONLY way you can send pictures from this phone is via email (Gmail or some other email application). You can use this phone for almost anything up to and including using it as a phone even if it isn't activated with a program called Groove IP as long as you are connected via Wifi and you have google voice account with it's own phone number.

Well I'm also considering the samsung galaxy 5 media player,,has a 5" screen and basically does everything a phone does without actually being a phone,,the only draw back is the camera isn't quite as good,,,3.2 mp's I believe. Either one of these devices is just going to replace a small camera my wife carries in her picketbook just to take a pic if needed,,not for any special picture taking occasions.
