This is a great phone but I will say as a superior phone why doesn't it have hdmi out? I don't like touchwiz either, I run golauncher instead. But other than that it's an impressive device! Oh yeah the battery is crap but what android stock battery isn't? I'd prefer volume buttons over a rocker too and maybe dual SIM.

There are lot of things that are pretty bad on this phone

1. Cannot connect to more than 1 bluetooth simulataneously
2, Lousy Battery life. Drains out in 4-5 hours of basic use
3. Cannot see the screen outdoors. One needs to be in shade or indoors to see the screen.
4. Will not dial the favorites by single touch
5. To redial a received or missed call you need to go through atleast 2-3 selections.
6. The screen icons do not automatically reorganize.

Basically if you could get the IOS on samsung hardware you would have a winner. I have been using the iphone for 6 yrs and at that just the 3gs I feel the iOS has a superior user experience but the hardware of samsung galaxy is better.

Mines great. All day with so far a maximum of 6 hours screen on. Maybe you have a different variant (you didnt specify)

3. Cannot see the screen outdoors. One needs to be in shade or indoors to see the screen.

I only live in the UK. Its fine here

T
4. Will not dial the favorites by single touch

From where? When in Contacts > Favourites, there is a phone icon. You can also add a shortcut on the homescreen

T
5. To redial a received or missed call you need to go through atleast 2-3 selections.

Phone > Logs > Call, same as every other phone?

I have issues with almost every point there.

1. Build quality. Not a fan of the all plastic build and jiggly power button (on mine anyway).

2. Radios. I've lived and worked in the same places during the time I've owned the Droid X, Droid 3, Rezound and S3. The Droids and the Rezound all got better reception and signal strength in my areas. I know it's different for everyone but this has been my experience.

3. Mine is fine; sometimes I just need to swipe the screen sensor
4. All you have to do is swipe the contact from left to right and visa versa for text.

But didn't you feel that ios is a limp dick and restricted?

On my old HTC Desire when you were listening to music on it the player came up at the lock screen so you could skip a track / pause it without having to unlock the phone - I would have liked that on the S3.

Other than that when holding the phone in 1 hand and trying to press the power button I tend to catch the volume buttons, which is annoying. However the problem there is the carbon based operator as opposed to any fault of Samsungs...

1. There is a bug that prevents upload to Picasa when you have more than one account synced with your gmail address. Have to remove other accounts with that address for upload to work.
2. I don't like the way the gallery organizes photos
3. I cannot view or download attachments from the stock e-mail app which I use for Exchange. Other Exchange apps do not work on my S3, but could be my server.
4. GPS seems weak. Have to be outside, will not lock whatsoever inside. This might be normal but I find it annoying. It will lose signal in the car if it's in my lap and not directly in the path of a window.
5. Battery. Have to do too many mods/tweaks to get acceptable battery life, and still need to charge to get through the day.
6. I get a decent amount of lockups and restarts of the OS (not sure exactly what this is called- where everything has to close and re-load)
7. How could I almost forget the notification light. I want to be able to turn it off at night. Maybe this can be done with Tasker or something but I haven't tried. I just turned it off altogether.

It might sound like I don't like my S3, but I do. Just needs some modifications with the next OTA or maybe some will be fixed with Jelly Bean.

I honestly can't think of a thing I don't like about it. Having switched recently from years of iPhone use myself, going to the Galaxy S3 was like escaping from North Korea. It's such a refreshing experience...

Although if I had to nitpick, I'd say that the initial latency for data is a bit longer than I'd like to see... When I 'goto' an address in the internet browser, it takes about 4-5 seconds before data begins downloading. After the initial request, subsequent requests are pretty quick... but the first time I go to a webpage there's always an awkward delay. However, I don't know if this is phone related or network related.

1. th There is a bug that prevents upload to Picasa when you have morean one account synced with your gmail address. Have to remove other accounts with that address for upload to work.

Is this a Picsa app-specific problem? In which case it isn't an S3 problem.

I've yet to have a problem with GPS lock-on where i wouldn't expect there to be one. i.e. thick concrete walls and no los upwards.

5. Battery. Have to do too many mods/tweaks to get acceptable battery life, and still need to charge to get through the day.

I use mine fairly heavily at times and it always lasts me from when i wake up until i go to sleep. Charging overnight doesn't cause me any inconveniance.

6. I get a decent amount of lockups and restarts of the OS (not sure exactly what this is called- where everything has to close and re-load)

Could be you've just unfortunately got a lemon or back up all your data and try a Factory Reset

Sounds like a lot of these are not problems with the phone as such but more personal preference.

No 7

Download light manager works a treat, you can set the time you don't want any Led coming on and set different led colours for different notifications.

2. What are you doing that you only get 4 hrs? I listen to music all day at work (at least 4hrs sometimes more) read for a couple hours every day, surf the web, and I constantly get 15-18 hrs on a charge.
3. while it's not great I can see my screen np
4. Dials with one push for me, not to mention you can use shortcuts also for one touch.

There are apps for that, I know for sure that go locker does, and player pro's is awesome.

Sounds like a lot of these are not problems with the phone as such but more personal preference.

There is no official Picasa app, however the gallery gives the option to upload to Picasa. I get a "failed to retrieve account information" error message that is corrected when removing other accounts with my gmail address.

I'm aware some people might have fine battery life and GPS, I'm just sharing the things about my phone that I am not 100% happy with. Whether due to the phone or the way I have it set up, apps I'm using etc. people's issues will vary. The point is I have tried to fix all of these things without much luck.

These might be personal preferences, however since android is all about choice and customization, the inability to get things to work the way I want them to, after researching and trying multiple solutions, leads me to not like those aspects of the phone. Since I came from another android device that was able to do fine with the things I mentioned, I view it as a problem with the phone. Haven't researched whether they might be ICS problems which could be the case.

I agree. My HTC Desire Z's dialler is much better.

1) It cannot transport me through a wormhole to a distant galaxy.

2) It cannot enable me to time travel back to 1984.

You need this superphone: List of Doctor Who items - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

1) Do not like where the speaker is, if i put it back down on my couch or a similar soft surface, it essentially becomes muted.

I agree. I find it very hard to hear the ring when my phone is in my holster. Other phones like my old Nokia N97 and BlackBerry Tour has speakers on the edges or back so you can hear the ring tone or notification sounds while it is in my holster.

Oh just remembered another - when typing emails / texts etc I miss the ability to long press specific keys to get differant characters, i.e comma's, full stops, colons, etc etc

I use Thumb Keyboard. It has these features.

Other things I do not like about the phone are as follows:
No physical keyboard.
  • Screen is too big and makes it difficult to use the device with one hand.
  • Album cover art is lost when I copy my music onto the phone. I have to get an app to get album cover art. I already did it on my PC, so having to do it again on my phone is annoying.
  • Contacts from different sources must be merged manually. My HTC Desire Z will find contacts that are likely the same person and asks me if I want to merge them.
  • Can only merge a maximum of 5 contacts. This leaves multiple contacts of some people I know in the contacts app.
  • No camera shutter button.

To swipe an NFC tag you need the phone unlocked. I just want to walk in to my house, wave the phone at a tag to turn wifi on.

I don't get the battery life issue - I get two days out of mine, listening to music at work for long periods, bit of browsing/twitter/email etc too.
GPS just fine here too.

#7 settings, led indicator, uncheck all. If you don't want to mess with that every night you can set up a tactile.

My dislikes are some that others have pointed out. Some are Android specific, not this phone.

1. Icons on the screen don't move around when you try to add a new one to the screen, like in iOS. It outright even says, no more room on this screen, instead of just overflowing the existing ones to the next home screen.
2 . I don't know what will happen when I run out of space beyond the 7 Home screens. Likely I have too much junk, and can always put similar content in folders, but just thinking why they have such a limit in Android.
3. Speaker placement at back is bad. I Like the way iPhone has it at the bottom.
4. Cheap back plastic cover. The wanted to reduce the weight, so did this, but because of that, phone feels very warm...almost hot at the bottom, sometimes even after just 2-3 mins of normal use and definitely during charging. iPhone is well built. And for a similarly priced SG3 with not much cost for OS, I would have liked a better engineered phone.
5. My old Blackberry Storm 1 had ability to allow me to skip tracks using the volume buttons, once you start the music and screen turns off or locks. Nothing like this with built in App. Yes, I can get something like Folder play, but then I like the equalizers of the built in app.
6. Placement of volume and power buttons is not the most optimal.
7. I do have to agree with Apples approach of a narrower but longer screen as operating this phone with one hand is not possible. I did not think about this a lot before, but now after a month of use, it is beginning to bother me a little. But who knows, have not seen how the same video might looks in the longer iPhone 5 Aspect ratio versus this one.
