Root [GUIDE] How to root your Activa 4G

Hello all, I got this phone for my wife and have been trying to root it, but SDK won't find the phone because my computer (Windows 8 Beta,64-bit) doesn't have a driver for it. Windows tries to automatically find one, but fails, and Huawei's poor excuse for a website doesn't offer any drivers for download.

Windows 8 is basically windows 7 with the metro apps when you plug in your phone run Huawei's software as administrator and you should have the drivers installed :)

"Does anyone know how to install Clockwork Recovery on this phone?? I can't seem to figure it out, there is NO "Huawei Activa 4g" option when you try to install it but I've tried all the Huawei phone options and none work when I press "Reboot into Recovery Mode". Can anyone tell me what they did if they got it to work?? or if they have any suggestions???

Hi BlazingFire258 & Welcome to Android Forums:)
I don't see that there is recovery for your device yet-be careful though-trying things that are not for your device could have negative consequences:(
Just so you understand the risks involved :deal:

Thanks gbiggie for the info, I've seen other phones installing different versions of Clockworkmod on their phone that weren't specifically designed for that phone and it works like a charm so I thought that the same concept could be applied for this phone but I've had no luck. Is there any other alternative recovery mods that can be used on this phone? I really want to install Cyanogenmod 7.2 ROM on this phone or at least be able to flash the stock ROM to it

I have everything installed in their correct places and it finds adb just fine but my issue happens when it looks for my device. I enter C:\Users\Owner>adb devices and it finds M920 but then it says it's offline. I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to do make go "online". Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.
Hey there jholleywood87-Welcome to Android Forums:)
Hmmm try restarting your phone while it is still plugged into the computer. Phone is USB debugging and drivers are installed correct:thinking:

Thanks Mexjoker!
Those drivers were exactly what I needed to make Windows and ADB detect this phone properly, i'm now fully rooted, but running out of internal memory. LOL
Next step for this phone... someone needs to port Cyanogenmod so we can move Dalvik Cache to SD!
First we need to get a Clockwork Recovery that's proving to be quite painful xD

I don't mean to put pressure on you or anything but out of curiosity do you know when you might release a Clockwork Recovery?
At the moment Im not sure :/ Although one of my main incentives besides you guys is I reaaaallly want cyanogenmod on my phone. xP Im working on it in my free time between work and school, but as for the status I really couldnt tell you at the moment.

Lol I really want Cynanogenmod as well but unfortunately I don't know squat about creating ports or recovery's, etc. Thanks for the reply, the thought of someone actually working on it though is reassuring so continue your good work :D

I'm on the same boat as you, I messed up my recovery thinking that the CWR of the Huawei Ascend 2 would work for this phone since the same root method for the Ascend 2 worked, I was wrong lol that's why the CWR is my only hope. I've read that the image file removes root, but I'm not sure of it reflashes the recovery partition or not. I want to give it a shot but I use root apps too much :p

Okay, I figured out wth I have not been able to root my Huawei Activa 4G or
so I think, it is because my boot loader is LOCKED!!!

supposably there is a link somewhere I saw on the sdk android forums I believe that goes to a link to request the tool needed to unlock the boot loader from the Huawei website, but it does not work(the link)

D

Bootloader shouldn't be a problem and I'm poetry sure it's unlocked. Where are you getting stuck?
