Looking for advice

I've got a question. I'm really interested in getting my hands on a Android device after fiddling with the G1 last year. It seems like it would be a touch phone I could actually love. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with VZW (with the rest of my family) for the next year. I also have to put up with this horrid Curve of mine, slow and glitchy, generally frustrating phone. VZW Service reps just tell me theres nothing they can do about it.

I've come to understand that the Moto Sholes is supposedly coming out to VZW soon. Would you say it's worth it to wait and HOPE this phone comes out, or is my family and I better off cancelling and going to TMo? TMo offers 5 free numbers per line, to all TMo users (most of my extended family), and potentially be about $40 cheaper than our current bill.

Thoughts?

Well if you want to stay with Verizon then just wait a few days. Motorola is having a big event on the 10th where they will hopefully announce the sholes. I don't know why you'd stay id t-mobile is cheaper though..

On the 10th huh? I will keep my eyes open then.

The only problem is that we would have to pay a hefty cancellation fee to go to TMo, and there are 3 of us on the plan so it might be really expensive to do that. Also I've heard while TMo coverage might be ok compared to VZW, that getting a signal with them can still be a PITA. Guess I wil have to do some research.

So yeah, talked to TMo and VZW people. TMo would be a LOT cheaper than VZW. Unfortunately, my contract with Alltel is not up until January, and the rest of family has more than a year to wait. Alltel's cancellation fee is $200 a line.

What on Earth do we do? I've heard about some "material adverse" deal to get out of the contract due to changes from the VZW-Alltel merger, but I'm not sure about it.

Sprint offers 250 million free numbers per line... AKA any mobile anytime call any mobile phone unlimited...

AND Tmobile has horrible service... at least in socal theres a reason they are so cheap

Unfortunately, MOTO didn't announce the Sholes like everyone thought they would, but CTIA is Oct 7-9 so it's believed that the Sholes will be announced the first week of October. If you want a reason to wait for the Sholes, read this: http://androidandme.com/2009/09/new...or-the-verizon-motorola-sholes-android-phone/.

Also rumored to be hitting VZW next month is the Google branded HTC Desire. There's not much about this phone except a screen capture supposedly from a VZW spreadsheet.

So, i would say wait until next month to see if you want to switch, it will be worth it if all the rumors are true. Just an aside, though, VZW could have been waiting to make announcements after the release of Donut since it includes support for CDMA. It's just a thought.

I ended up getting the myTouch with TMobile when the $100 deal came out. I have about a week to return it if I don't like their service. Still not sure what I should do. Price between TMo and VZW for my family isn't that big of a deal. I was really looking forward to the Sholes but VZW still hasn't made a sound about it.

I do like the myTouch but it seems like VZW has overall better coverage.

Ideas?

It sounds to me like you arent sure you made the right choice in picking the MT3G. What you really need to be asking yourself is. Can you wait until Nov/Dec to upgrade to the Sholes or do you need to have an android now?

Answer that, and you probably answer your question of what to do.

In the mean time. Im going to take sidebets that you return the MT3G and wait. That sounds more like what you want to do in my opinion. Do I have any takers? ;)

You'd probably win the bet if there was a pool going on! That is indeed the decision I've made. TMo has proven to be rather daunting in their coverage compared to VZW.

Hopefully I'll get all my money back and the service/contract will be canceled since it's only been a week..

Edit. Is it bad that I felt bad for the mytouch upon boxing it back up, or feeling bad for the Blackberry when I first got the new phone?
