Switch from iPad to Nexus 7?

So, I have an iPad 2 at the moment, but I'm tired of the restrictions, the lack of customization, and the ton of little bugs I have to struggle with. Therefore I'm looking at the Google Nexus 7 as a replacement for the iPad. Being the Apple hater I am, I want to break free from iOS as quickly as possible.

I really want the Nexus, however I'm not 100% sure about it. My major concern is that I will miss the large display of the iPad, although the pixel density will be better with the Nexus. One more thing is the lack of a rear camera, even though I think I'll be able to cope with that relatively quickly(I still have my S3, and with NFC/BT on both the S3 and the Nexus, this shouldn't really be an issue).

Do you guys have any advice, tips or I-would-do-that-if-I-were-you?

You need both but the iPad is better. This is from someone who owns a Rezound, nexus 7, and new iPad.

I disagree. I just got the Nexus this week and haven't put it down. I have the ipad and iPhone. I like the apps on the ipad but love the Nexus more.

I think that I won't regret getting a Nexus. I'm not going to sell the iPad to someone outside of my house, so I won't be completely without the iPad, if I should need it for some reason.

I can't speak to the Nexus specifically, but I can speak to a 7" Android tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2) vs Ipad 2.

I used to have an IPad 2 and I really liked the apps on it, but it was just too big for ME. It was a pain to use in bed after my wife went to bed, it wasn't that portable when we were out running errands, it just didn't fit my use case for it. So, I traded it in at Best Buy for the Tab 2 (the Nexus hadn't been announced yet).

In almost all cases, including: Reading books, watching video content (including Hulu, HBO Go, Netflix, and downloaded movies), listening to music, and playing games, Skype/Google+ Hangout sessions with my brother, I prefer the 7" form factor. Plus it fits in my pants pocket, and goes with me just about everywhere.

The one usage where I miss the iPad is web browsing. I'm always struggling with font size and layout. Now, that's not to say it's unusable, far from it, but the iPad is just better for it. I also miss some of the apps available only on the iPad, such as Tales from Monkey Island (a game), but that's rare.

As far as the rear-facing camera, I never used the one I had on my iPad. Not once. So I don't mind the fact that the tab 2 has a very crappy camera (vs the Nexus complete lack of one).

I have both a N7 and TF Prime which is similar in size to the iPad.
Since getting my N7, I have barely used my Prime since it's noticeably heavier and awkward to hold. I usually only use it with the keyboard dock when I need to type a bit. My N7 is just as fast (both Tegra 3 and on JB) and is nice to handle when lounging about or it you have to lug it around.
It's a steal in price and recommend it to anyone. If you're looking for customization, there's plenty you can do with it and the development community loves this tablet as well.

I love my nexus 7. Small enough to take anywhere.

It's rooted, but I haven't found the need to flash any custom roms yet

Good points everyone, and thank you for the advice/opinions. I just pre-ordered the Nexus today(it's not released in Norway yet, argh), so in a few days I will have it in my hands. I won't regret it. I think (and hope).

Anyhow, if I should regret it really badly, I still have my iPad, as my mom is going to buy it from me, so no need to lay down and die because of that...

Really looking forward to not having to be restricted with iOS anymore!

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, which is probably the closest mainstream competitor to the Nexus 7 (havent heard of other 7inchers with hardware better than this apart from the N7), and what I will comment on is the form factor.

The 7inch form is the best form for gaming IMO. The screen and controls are of ample size, without the awkward smallness of a phone, or the size of an iPad/full tablet. However, reading certain books can be a problem, especially those in double column formats, since it will entail lots of scrolling and panning, instead of being able to view the full page comfortably in the entire screen (the text becomes too small for comfort IMO). Its also a bit awkward for sketching since its small. So its basically a compromise. Better gaming handles as opposed to better reading/productivity.

I really don't read much, and I've never read an ebook before, so that shouldn't be an issue for me. On the productivity side I'm not gifted at all, so the only productiviness I do is Draw Something, which I belive is as simple to do on the N7 as it is on the iPad.

The only things I'll use my N7 for is gaming, facebook and some web browsing when I'm away from my pc. Nothing where a big screen is an absolute must.
