Help Lock Button is Broken

I think thousands of people have been through this too :(

Needless to say my Nexus S has Android Jelly Bean 4.2 and the lock button wouldn't work since this morning. I can't go out with my phone like that. I've been looking for a solution for hours but I didn't succeed.
Has anybody else fixed this?

The removing battery trick with USB plugged won't work. I tired it already. The only temporary solution I found was to download the Proximity Sensor app, to lock and unlock the screen with my fingers over the sensor, but other than that, everything else fails.

IT'S URGENT, PLEASE :(

P.S.: I'm kind of a dummy on tech, please try to be easy to understand, I'd be so grateful.

Welcome to the forums, himmel!
Sorry to hear about your problem. I assume this is a hardware problem?
If so, you may be out of luck. There's an app for the Galaxy Nexus that allows you to swipe the screen to unlock/lock. Unfortunately, I believe it's ONLY for the Gnex and you have to be rooted.

If the app you're using works, why not stick with that?

Thanks for your concern!

The sensor app is always trigged with anything. If I put it in my pocket, it triggers and I'd like to avoid that.
Yes, it's rooted, though I'm a dummy, I managed to root it this morning too, lol (after my lock button worked again for a few moments).

I'm gonna try that app, and I'll let you know as soon as I install it :)

EDIT: Oh, and about hardware, unfortunately it's not. I've seen that it happened to many people out there, specially after the Jelly Bean update, and on Nexus phones. I'm sure it's not hardware. That would be a big coincidence.

I would email the developer before you purchase and see if it will work, or if they could somehow tweak the app to make it work for you. I have it installed and while I think it's pretty cool (he's updated it a few times), it's VERY sensitive. I find just tossing it in my pocket is enough for it to unlock. :( I don't really use it any longer.
Are you on a custom ROM? If not, have you tried another ROM to see if it makes any difference?

No, excuse the stupidity, but how do I do that? I'll try anything at this moment :/

Okay, does your volume rocker work fine?
I'll try and find an app that can utilize it to lock/unlock the screen. I know it's an option in most custom ROMs, but there may be an app to do it.

Yes. The volume buttons are working just fine. Except the power button. It's the only button that is not working. Android should fix this, too many people are having this issue.

Hey, sorry for the late answer. I've been busy these days.
Well, I was using a sensor unlocking app. Basically I had to put my finger over the sensor for 1 sec to unlock screen. It was almost a McGuyver thing but it worked, though it wasted more battery than anything else.
Anyway, my button started working out of nothing again :/
I'm just hoping I don't go through the same over and over. We'll see.
Still can't figure what's happened to it, lol.
