Thinking of Nexus 7 (16 or 32?) where is the best deal?

So I have been thinking a tablet might be nice, then I will not need to use my PC all the time. I currently have a RAZR MAXX and I am quite happy with it, but for typing longer emails and longer forum posts I think a bigger screen where I can see what I am doing will be better for me.

To get a gauge of size I borrowed my Dad's iPad3 to see if I liked the 10" size. I found that with the case he had I could prop it up and use it in my lap, but when holding it after a bit it becomes heavy. So I am thinking the Nexus 7 will fit the size I am looking for. this will be used at home and I may take it with when I go places or travel.

My next dilemma is 16 or 32. From a future thinking standpoint I should get the 32, but I like the price of the 16gb. I am personally having a hard time justifying the extra $50 for the 32gb.

I am not sure if I will have many movies on the Nexus, my music I have on Google Play Music and I do have my phone to access that. As for apps, I think there are apps on my phone that I will not use/have on the Nexus.

Lastly.. best deal?

If I can get to an Office Depot tomorrow (hoping they have some left) I saw they have the 32 for $229, but with tax I am a couple dollars from $250. but no shipping

Any other places that are recommended for buying one?

I have the 16 and it's okay on size. If you need to store a lot of movies, then it may be too small. I store workout videos on mine and they generally fit but I do have to shuffle them around from a PC. I probably wouldn't with 32 but the 32 wasn't an option when I got mine.

We have two iPads and, as you've seen, they are rather heavy to hold for a long time if you're reading an ebook or watching a movie. I use the Nexus 7 for both of those things. I generally try to avoid much typing on anything that doesn't have a physical keyboard. I do write short emails on the Nexus 7 or my iPhone using voice recognition or punching the keys but I prefer desktops and laptops for a lot of typing. I do have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse that I can hook up to the Nexus 7 but I frequently need reference information when I'm typing longer pieces so I usually just boot up Windows or Mac OS X for that if I don't already have a PC up and running.

I don't plan to do any shopping on Friday. Our state doesn't have sales tax but the neighboring state does. So we will get massive amounts of people coming over the border to buy stuff and the shops will be packed. I was at Best Buy on Wednesday and they had way too many customers for the staff on hand.

Post any good deals that you find though. I'd like to know what's out there. Google's not making much or any money on the hardware so I wouldn't think that they could discount these by much.

Yeah I know they have a low margin on the Nexus 7 but Is there really a $50 difference in cost for a 16 vs 32 for them?

Another question is does anyone know the typical shipping cost from ordering from the Play store? I figure at most $10 for shipping so the 32 would cost me $260 vs if I go battle crowds to either get or not get one at $229 ($246 with tax) or got with the 16gb for $199 which I have no real issue with..

OR.. I just wait.. til who knows when.. LOL

I'm pretty sure that the difference in flash isn't $50 but they might lose money on the 16 and make money on the 32 so that it winds up being even.

I think that the shipping costs were $7 to $10. I bought a Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus from the Play Store and recall that the shipping costs were around $10.

I love my 16gb, but would have sprung for the 32 if it were available a couple months ago. but I still have 12gb free after 2 months.. you get a bit over 13gb free on the 16gb version.. I would feel better with more free space but probably wouldn't use it, then again having a lot of play room can change my attitude... all depends on how you really end up using the tab yourself.....

I really wouldn't worry about the storage size, there's an easy way around it. You can connect an external usb drive using a two dollar otg cable and the Nexus media importer app. This will allow you to store anything you want on the external drive and view it on the nexus. If it's movies you're worried about, I use DVD Catalyst (10 bucks) on my PC to convert them and optimize them for viewing them on the Nexus. these can then be saved onto the Nexus itself (a full movie will be about 800-900 MB in size) or, again, just store them on the external drive and stream them with the media importer. you'll also need a player, MX and SB sre both very good. ;)

Basically, if you're into locally stored music, videos, or gaming, the 32 is the way to go. I have an 8 and I plan on upgrading to a 32. If you don't see yourself doing THAT MUCH with local media, the 16 is probably the way to go. Now personally, I think its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Remember, there's no expansion. But ultimately, its your call. What do you need it for?

Need? I don't need it.. I am thinking it will be a nice go to machine instead of my Laptop or phone for email and internet when home. I find myself using my phone a lot more when relaxing to check mail etc. I might end up using it for movies on trips and such but it is more for internet and email instead of using my laptop all the time and I can take it from room to room easier.

I might find other uses for it, but that is what I am aiming for.

Oh so I can use a external USB drive for read only (like movies) without having to root?
I will see if I can find the Nexus 7 tomorrow but I am not going to rush out for one.

Correctomundo. All you need is Nexus media importer, works like a dream. I have 32 gb usb flash drive the size of my thumbnail, and the otg cable is only about 3cms long. Not exactly difficult to carry around. Seriously, save the cash and stick to the 16 gb! I ;)

from my p.o.v. i got the 32gb galaxy nexus for music and the 16gb nexus 7 for netflix and apps that i use daily.... so really its how you wanna use it and thanks to sprint i can just wifi hotspot my tablet anywhere... so awesome how they make it where we can just use only android stuff as far as once your done root, rom, and copying music/movies we can just take it anywhere at anytime only thing is charging and my tablet is prolly 10x longer battery life than my galaxy.... so its really how your gonna use your tablet and how long you will be away from a computer or wall plug to charge.... so really the 32gb isnt needed but for alot of ppl $50 for 2x memory is well worth it....

All you can really do is compare shipping and taxes. Price seems to be consistent everywhere. Usually on electronics like this no one can/will really sell it for any less than anyone else.

I mean don't bother with Sears..after over an hour on the phone to get the $224.99 price everything was all set and then they say no longer avail. Out of stock.. I will part more from my PC.. I could not get the 224 price at Sears

to Expand..

I was all set to buy at $224.99 with free shipping. tried online but once added to cart it went to $249.99.. Call a CSR at Sears. after over an hour and 3 different people, finally getting somewhere, when they went to press the complete order it did not accept it stating it was not avail.

Now you look on their website it is $249.99 not 224.99. They would not honor the price to me.. Ah well I will press on to find one..

Being indecisive on if I need it is what is keeping me from buying the 16gb.. the lower price of the 32gb would get me to buy it.. I understand there is a low margin and $2498 is a good price, but I will never know how much I will use one until I have one.. Ironic isn't it
