Help What happened to "buttery smoothness"?

I got android 4.2 and was all like "Yay! New features!", but after a while I realized that it slowed down to the pace of a bottom line froyo phone. App changing was a nightmare (usually ends in force close) the screen wouldn't turn on for upwards of five seconds after I hit the power button, and stuff would just occasionally run slowly. Granted when I get a program running its just as snappy as it should be.

I had android 4.1 and it really was buttery smooth! It was amazing! But something went wrong in 4.2. Has anyone found a way to bring me back my butter?!

Side note: I did disable Google currents due to some internet advice (and I don't use it) and i'm not sure if it helped or not. and I haven't been able to test 4.2.1 but from the looks of it, it hasn't been fixed.

Sounds like you need to do a factory reset. 4.2 and 4.2.1 are buttery smooth.

OTA updates can cause many of the problems you are facing. It usually doesnt have anything to do with the content of the update, its teh update process itself. Factory resets are a common fix

Sounds like you need to do a factory reset. 4.2 and 4.2.1 are buttery smooth.

does the factory reset wipe everything? I have downloaded so many things, i am not getting a slow down but if a factory reset can tide up things why not. right?

You might try Forever Gone before a complete factory reset. "Supposed to" help clean things up. Mine never got laggy, but ran this with no issues (takes a while to run).

You may want to try and disable Google+ from the app info screen, and then re-enable it. Made a holy-I-just-crapped-my-pants difference for me. The Currents things helped a little, but it was still super slow and choppy overall. Google+ was always at the top of my battery drain list so I tried the disable thing, and now my tablet is back to 4.1.2 speeds.

I can. It worked for me. Like he said, it takes a while to run and during the run your tablet will get flaky because it's filling up all the free space with data, then it erases that data. Computers with low memory get touchy. Just let it run to the end.

Alright, so the slowness reached a peak and I got really frustrated to a point of rage quit, so I went and disabled these google apps (on both users, I forgot that I had a second [might that be the problem?]):

Currents | Email (generic) | Google pinyin | Google Korean keyboard | Magazines | Google Plus

IE, the ones I don't use, and it seems to be working better now. There is no way I'm doing a factory resest so I hope this works! But as of now its smooth as butter! Hopefully it won't become frozen butter, because that would be a delicious tragedy (and my N7 would probably have to start fearing for its structural integrity!)

Hey, TheAtheistReverend. Due to the beauty of MS paint! This is where I found my list of apps, just under the general settings, then apps.

then scroll all the way to the right to see the all applications column, and then find a system app, like books, or Google plus or whatever.

Then you should see a disable button, next to the force stop. hit that and you will get a warning, but who cares? It doesn't matter.

I know I didn't have to use pictures, but I like them! And they're very helpful in my opinion!

Disable background sync under currents settings. That will do the trick

There is no way I'm doing a factory resest

You can do a factory reset no problem it does not change anything just wipes user data and then downloads it again it is a great easy fix for lots of problems

You should backup text messages, game data, bookmarks, etc., because that will not be restored automatically. Those will have to be restored from a backup after the apps have been installed. Many of the apps will restore, but some will have to be manually re-installed.
