Hello guys.

I have been trying to update my Hero since yesterday but i keep getting Connection failure.
I think its because i can't get the Htc Sync working. I have installed it to my PC and all that but my Phone just cant find it. But do i even HAVE to use Htc Sync to update?
I have tried everything i know. Rebooting everything, reinstalling Htc Sync and all this i have been trying on 3 different PC's to make sure but it just doesn't work. :(
Please help me, what can i do?

I said no such thing! I just said that I've not used HTC Sync.

I'm waiting for the official firmware upgrade at the moment, hoping that the Orange versions of HTC software don't take as long as the Orange versions of Nokia software

I just did not know what you ment (;

Well, the upgrade i want to do is official but i think it's only nordic (im from Denmark).
ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero ;)

After installing HTC sync i had to wait for an age without doing anything on the computer or the phone just to complete the first windows hand shake. It comes up with lots of things after first use but you have to wait for the "device is ready to use" quote. It took my computer 10mins. So my advice it to uninstall all HTC sync stuff from your computer.
Reinstall it from the HTC website and then plug your phone in via usb and walk away at least for 10 mins. Because it looks as if its not doing anything its very easy to think its ready before it is so you end up unplugging it before the handshake is finished.

Hi guys, first post on this forum so wish me luck.....
I had problems initially getting Sync to work on my Vista Laptop and think I have worked out a quick solution for you:
1. Uninstall the HTC Sync software & driver, reboot PC
2. Download a fresh copy, or use previous .exe file to install (I turn off my wireless card so no internet, then disable Virus & Firewall software, and exit all the open programs running on the desktop & taskbar).
3. Install the Sync software, reboot PC
4. Start up Sync software, connect mobile phone (which is switched on).
5. At this point, Vista seems to load just one of the drivers (see the taskbar, where it is installing the device for more information).
6. So, at the moment, Sync still does not recognise your Hero phone.
7. This is the key bit for me, with everything still connected, do the "drag down" on the home screen of your Hero, and start up the HTC Hero Sync application.
8. At this point, Vista now loads all the other drivers & recognises the Android phone.......after this is done, then the Sync software will open a new window, asking you to go through the Hero connection wizard (name your phone, etc).
9. All is done - go to the install program option to install the .sdk file (but it does not actually do anything), so you can load new software at a later date.
10. Should work now???

Let me know if this works for anybody else.....:)

All the computers i tried it on had Windows XP but today after school i went over to my friend who had a laptop with Vista and it worked right away. Finally i got the update! :D
But i think its weird it did not work on XP?

Goto your device drivers section of control panel and remove all drivers that have caution (yellow exclamations) remove any app you had install relating to the phone ...

Reboot your computer and start again ...

Connectivity to HTC sync did not seem to be a factor for me.
Both I and a friend at work have been unable to get HTC sync to connect reliably to our phones I with a Vista laptop and he with XP. Neither of us cared because we are google mail users and did not need it. When the Rom update came along we were both able to install it without problem. Phone connected to the PC, SD unmounted, HTC Sync running but claiming to be unconnected. ran the update and it found the phone and worked perfectly.
