How's the battery life?

Upvote 0
I know battery life would be a better, but I'm just not sure about the rest yet for myself. I think the DNA as a phone, is excellent, build, call quality, signal, responsiveness are all top notch, and man is the screen a beauty.

I like the size of the DNA as well, big screen but not too huge either. I don't like sense, but I dont care for touchwiz either(though I like touchwiz better) so a moot point.

I had a Note 1 on AT&T and while it is a huge phone it didn't bother me, so I know I would be comfortable with the Note 2. I wish it had a 1080p screen, because seriously the DNA screen is great, but I know the Note 2 screen is great as well.

I don't care about the removable battery, will never switch one out myself, but I like how big the battery is, also sd slot isn't that big of a deal to me either because I don't usually go over 10gb so 16gb is enough, but more options are always better.

I will most likely pick up the note 2 just for the battery itself.

You do know you're just misleaded my marketing? 1080p screen on a 5" or 5.5" screen makes hardly any difference, even some 50" tv's aren't even 1080p

If you look at both, you'll hardly see a difference, maybe if you look up close at around 1 inch away, but who looks at a phone like that?

Note 2 has a much higher contrast ratio, makes the experience lovely.

DNA has terrible battery life, a few months down the line, like with most htc's the battery will deplete and you won't get anywhere near the charge you used to get, you can't replace the battery either. In the Note 2, the s-pen is pretty useful and since the Note 2 has a micro sd card slot, expandable storage is quick + easy, just stick a 64GB micro sd class 10 in there.

Anybody who hasn't yet, go into settings, display, display mode, and choose dynamic. Brings the screen to life and everything looks so vibrant and stunning.

Make the switch, before you regret it!!

This phones batery life is AWESOME!! I came from the crapy Thunderbolt.
This past Saturday I unplugged the phone from the charger at 7:30am. Rode in the car 2 hours (using the maps, checking texts, facebook, downloaded a couple apps etc.) Then I streamed 2 of my son's hockey games live to Ustream which was a total of 1GB uploaded.
Long story short I did not have to put it on the charger until midnight. I got 17 hrs of battery with all of that usage. The thunderbolt used to die on me 1/2 way through streaming one hockey game and I would have to have it plugged in.
Oh I am through verizon.

Wow...was that on LTE? Either way its incredible

Hate to burst your bubble but your are dead wrong. It is not being mislead by marketing. I have looked at the DNA and Note 2 side by side and and tell the difference, I'm not saying the Note 2 screen is bad by any means but you can definitely tell the DNA is sharper. Heck my wife could see the difference between her GS3 and my DNA.

Battery life isn't terrible either, I'm not sure if you have used one, but I've had mine for the last week and while it isn't a Droid Razr Maxx it is every bit as good as my old GS3. But I do wish for a Maxx battery, main reason I'm thinking about getting a Note 2.

I think both phones appear to be great, and I couldn't go wrong with either.

I'd suggest looking through the battery thread. Of all the reviews, I think there was only one (1) person (that I can remember) that actually said their battery was draining like crazy (likely a defect or app causing the issue...or roaming...or all of the above).

Nontheless, I love the battery life for my needs. Within the past couple weeks that I've had my phone configured how I wanted and started to tinker more and more lately, I can last past a full work day without having any hesitation to actually use the phone, for fear of the battery draining.

Before, when I went below 50%, I'd be scared that the battery would just drain like crazy while just in standby and be stuck without a phone. Now, even with GPS on 24/7, I barely even worry about the battery being below 50% and continue to use the phone whenever I need to. The bottom half of the battery always seems to last much longer than the top half, which is fantastic for my needs!

I think mine was about that good the first day I got it. Something I've done or installed since then has been killing it. I'm at 68% at 8hrs in with 2hrs 31 mins screen time. Not horrible, but it probably wouldn't make 24 hours.
I take that back. I'm at 1d 3hr on that same charge with 27% left:D. I'll upload a screen shot when it gets around 2% if I can.

Someone asked how a battery might look if you're on LTE all day. I kept my wifi off the whole day today, from 6:30 AM till now (about 12:45 AM), and ran on LTE and 3G. I'd say it was 85% LTE, 15% 3G. My usage was a little light compared to what I normally do, just due to the circumstances of what I was up to today. So this is with screen awake time at only 36 minutes and change for the whole day, but it should give you a ballpark figure for mobile networks only:

Battery Monitor Widget was estimating 22 hours before the battery emptied.

Hi all,

A few days ago I bought a Galaxy Note 4G after watching great reviews about it's features, battery life etc. This is my first android phone after using an iphone for the past 2 years.

Since getting the phone I have noticed that contrary to all of the reviews I've seen, the battery life is absolutely terrible. I lose 5% of the battery just driving to work, and quickly checking facebook, twitter, and sending a text or MMS costs me another 6% on top of that.

I downloaded 'battery defender' and also a task manager app so I could stop any apps that might be draining the battery, but it's still the same. I've turned off all of the syncing etc, but still have the same problem. Is it the 4G causing this problem? I've also noted that there's no available option to turn 4G off. I can't believe that every review I've read talks about how amazing the battery life is - what am I missing? Even after two years of use my iphone had better battery.

I've also had no luck getting push notifications to work. With the iphone I would be told as soon as I was mentioned in a tweet, now the best I get is about 15 minutes after, if at all. Most of the time I'm not notified at all. I've changed the settings in the twitter app but can't get it working. Anyone got any advice on this?

I love the big screen and really want everything to be working smoothly on this phone, but at the moment I'm pretty annoyed - I'm locked into a contract on this phone for 2 years, and can't get anything working. :(

Please help!

Cheers.

Who is your cell phone provider ( Carrier)?

On my AT&T Note 2 , I can disable all 3G/4G/LTE mobile Data by going to

Settings

Data Usage

Mobile Data (enable /disable)

When i'm at work or home i use the Wi-Fi only, and disable AT&T mobile data.

My day starts at 7:00am with 100% battery - and using the phone all day long, I'm at 50% battery by 5:00pm.

Remember its best to use the phone until 15% battery remains, then connect the charger.

If you always connect to a charger with 70% battery remaining , you may get shorter mAH battery life.

Tell us what carrier you are on. Most new 4G/LTE phones with second gen 28nm LTE chip this year don't have option to turn off LTE on stock setting. You will need app like "phone info" to do that. But I don't think it will make much difference unless you are going in and out of 4G zones frequently. Try to use WiFi whenever it's available to you.

What apps are you using that might sync frequently? You might try to reduce sync frequency on facebook, twitter. They are pretty heavy on battery at default sync setting. Also take screen shot of your battery monitor pages (list of apps and drain curve with signals, screen, etc) if you don't mind. That would be very helpful to identify causes for your fast drain.

Something is definitely wrong. I leave GPS and Bluetooth on all the time. I'm on Verizon with LTE on all the time. I even have poor signal at my house. Screen at 40%. Constant email downloads. After TWO days, 2hrs and 52 minutes of screen time, I went to bed with still 34% left. AMAZING battery life on this phone. I don't think any other device can touch it.

I'm jealous, rdalcanto! I wish I could get that battery life!

For all those asking, I'm on Optus, in Australia. I've downloaded gsam battery monitor and will post a screen shot in a sec.. I had already turned off all of the syncs in settings and it's made no difference whatsoever.

Surely turning off all mobile data just to get a decent battery life is a bit much. The phone should be able to use it's functions without you having to worry about it going flat before you get home.

I'm also concerned about the push notifications thing. Is there a way to set up the phone so that you are actually informed as soon as a tweet comes through? Worked fine on the iphone.

Thanks to all for your suggestions so far.

I'm on AT&T, I had the same issue. About a week ago I saw my battery life cut in half. I thought it was an app that I had just installed, so I removed it and saw no improvement. A dug a little deeper, & found my problem.

Check your battery life manager, mine was being killed by AT&T Locker. I removed the update and back to all day battery life :D

Hope this helps :)

Hmmm....Just want to clarify with the OP, did you get a Galaxy Note or a Galaxy Note 2?

Big difference in a 2500mah battery vs. 3100mah battery.

If it's a Galaxy Note, I can see where the issues might be. If it's a Galaxy Note 2, I'd take it back and have it exchanged. And I noticed there's only mention of the little percentage drops from little use, but that doesn't really give me a bigger picture of how long the battery actually lasts.

For example, when starting at 100%, most of the top half of the battery percentage dropping, actually drops faster for me. On the bottom 50%, the drain is much longer and the phone lasts me way longer than any phone I've ever owned and destroys all my friends' iPhones.
