Root Droid Eris Rom Question

Ok well after doing several hours of researching i still have a few questions on rooting my droid eris. Of course i'm on the stock 1.5 and have not updated to 2.1 via the leakware available.

Which rom should i use if i want OTA updates (for when 2.1 comes out) but i also want to use wireless tether and apps2sd? I would like to keep the stock senseui and everything else intact the way it is now. I have it setup nicely i'm just running out of space with the installed apps.

I would also like to use platinum backup to backup my contacts, settings, apps etc whenever updates do come out. I don't want to be bothered with flashing new roms all the time. I'd rather just gain the extra features as painlessly as possible. But i'd like to make a backup for future updates so i don't have to go through the hassle of setting up the phone each time they decide to send over a big OTA update that wipes your data.

If needed i can give a link to appbrain if you'd like to see what i've got installed on my phone currently.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yeah i guess i got confused by other threads saying you could get the ota updates. I'm still on the fence wether or not i want to root, i guess i'll probably just wait for google to implement a way to store apps on the sd card, it doesn't seem to be worth the hassle or risk for those 2 features.

It is totally worth it, and you can still go OTA if you want by manually installing it like you would with root or the leak.

I did my other halves Eris with root and its great, I'm a tad jealous to be honest. It makes me wish it was my phone that drowned in the pool.

Well i guess my next question would be what rom to use that will allow me to use app2sd + wireless tether but still retain the currently look and feel of the senseui? I've looked at the thread that lists the features of each one but most of them seem to have things i don't want or need. I would also like to use platinum backup and swype, on top of the apps i already have installed from the app store. I'd love to be able to use DroidESPN but i can't seem to find a copy of it anywhere (torrent sites, rapidshare, etc). I've even went as far as emailing the developer and asking if i could buy a copy of it, but never got a reply.

Sense-able works great, but its the only one I have used so I can only attest to my experience with it alone.

If you want the stock feel of sense u/i I would suggest going with ivan's as it is pretty much stock, I do not remember if it has wireless tether installed, but it as simple as installing an app to do that....as for apps2sd, I do not beleive that can be done yet simply because HTC has not released the source code for the kernel.... i may be wrong about that part...in which case i am sure some one will correct me
