I'm SO happy.

The bumper does make the phone really wide... not sure if I'll use it.

sell me the bumper then... my girl has been trying non stop to get it for xmas and hasnt been able to.

seriously!

I don't have any other case and since I've had it for less than 24 hours I might just keep it on and try to get used to it. If in a couple days I find myself not using it at all i'll send you a PM.

What's the model of that Energizer Inductive Charger, please? I'm very interested in your impressions of its functionality.

Amazon.com: Energizer Single Position Inductive Charger: Health & Personal Care

i think i'm going to give my phone a couple normal USB charge cycles before i use it... just to make sure I get my battery working as well as possible.

I can't view... Can you post in some other format?

Done.

That seems well-considered.

The product description of "single position charger" taken in context with some user reviews makes it seem as if phone placement on the charging pad is critical? I don't find the Qi-certification logo anywhere on the Nexus 4 box or included documentation, and wonder if indeed (as rumored) that Google has quietly coerced LG to follow the competing PMA inductive-charging standard (Power Matters Alliance).

I'll nominate you as a Local Inductive-Charging Expert by virtue of having the charging device.

... Whatever "standard" they are using does not mean much if I can do what I was doing.

Any "standard" is simply that; a baseline measure of performance against which any product can be compared consistent with others. A "standard" doesn't preclude you or any other individual from doing whatever you want.

How about you take some pictures of your inductive-charging setup and post them with some data concerning the process, please ... enquiring minds want to know.

Very well... I suck at pictures so here we are...

The coil is... well a coil.
I am feeding this a 900Khz square wave @ 20V peak to peak.
It charges slowly but it does charge :)

I did it to see if I could and this was my first attempt and I nailed it .. probably by luck.

Very impressive in its simplicity, and your choice of views is helpful. Of course the irregularity of the coil shape will affect the field strength, as will the number of windings (it's the primary coil after all) and especially the amount of current flowing through it as I'm sure you well know.

I'd be curious to see an ammeter reading in between one end of the coil and the red or black clip connected to it. Also curious about your choice of the other parameters of frequency and voltage ... of course the hardware (wire gauge, connectors et.al.) limits the current.

Charger Mark II...

I have to stress the CRUDITY of this...
I whacked an RF transistor in there and backed the drive down to 1 volt peak to peak.
At the collector of the transistor it's bumped up to about 70 volts peak to peak.

It charges somewhat faster... but this is so crude its burning half the power in heat. :D

Edit: waveform.... I got the peak to peak voltage wrong doh... see image.

This is so stupidly crude.. its astonishing that this crude junk works.
I put no thought into this at all.

I am thinking a ZVS supply... a real coil.... etc.
I bet I can make a REAL one that is not total junk and basically a coil with a transistor that's going to pop :D

I really don't think it needs to run @ 900Khz.
My understanding is that some real ones only run at 100Khz.

Or I might just let the blue smoke out of that transistor for fun :)
